Radu Posted October 28, 2016 Report Posted October 28, 2016 I don't mind the haystacks. I think they give the level a nice touch. However, I do mind the ground textures. So many noticeable repetitive patterns. Squad 1
Squad Posted October 28, 2016 Author Report Posted October 28, 2016 Thanks, Radu. The haystacks will remain, but I need to remake them so they look better. I wasn't very clear about that
blackdog Posted October 28, 2016 Report Posted October 28, 2016 (edited) DAT tree shadow Oh, I guess the haystacks are those big round things… they might be as of reference but personally I couldn't tell what they were straight away. Maybe even of is not geographically accurate you can use a different kind of stack, something more common and smaller. For eg this is what they use in Slovenia to dry the hay They also use them for wood. i think the problem with the ground is not much the texture, but the fact that Squad hasn't yet played with the alpha, also the ground is quite flat and there are not many features capturing the attention. I say keep it up! Edited October 28, 2016 by blackdog Radu and Squad 2
Radu Posted October 28, 2016 Report Posted October 28, 2016 One way to improve the ground would be to use higher resolution textures, like 2048x2048 or 4096x4096 - that might go overboard, though you could cover a lot of surface with that. Squad 1
Squad Posted October 28, 2016 Author Report Posted October 28, 2016 It's hard to find decent references for them, but here are a few from Band of Brothers that are accurate to how they actually looked. The terrain overall is still pretty untouched. I guess it will be one of the last things I'll address since it's less important than finishing all the buildings. paranoidMonkey Posted October 29, 2016 Report Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) found some cool pics that illustrate the way haystack used to look, basically they would pile the hay and create a roof like thingy at the top so water or snow don't get in or accumulate too much. Squad Posted October 30, 2016 Author Report Posted October 30, 2016 Thanks, paranoidMonkey! It's not yet perfect, but this should be a lot better already Plat, 'RZL, paranoidMonkey and 6 others 9
blackdog Posted October 30, 2016 Report Posted October 30, 2016 Ye totally get that you wanted to make them per reference @Squad, and they actually were looking alike; I like these much better though. Squad 1
El Moroes Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) We had that kind of models in our old "baguet mappack". It was made by Ukulele and you can find the model on his own website (with other useful models too). You could ask him too. Edited November 1, 2016 by El Moroes Squad and paranoidMonkey 2
hdkhh_ Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Beautiful pictures. Keep up the good work! Squad 1

Thanks for reminding me I'll check it out.
Squad Posted November 8, 2016 Author Report Posted November 8, 2016 I remade the building that is Objective C today. Not fully done yet, but I'm pretty happy with how it's looking so far. At first, I planned to make this a small city hall, but during the process I changed it to a semi-fancy hotel building. Still not 100% sure if I'll stick with this or change it back. Time will tell Also tweaked the fog to be a bit less "in your face" as that was a clear feedback from the Sunday playtest. And here's a picture from inside the school building. Squad Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 Doing more work in and around the school building. I extended it with a playground at the back for flanking options. Plat, 'RZL, Radu and 7 others 10
