Tequila Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 http://www.vaultofevil.com/ree/ Well, gentlesirs, it is time to go public. I'll avoid needless repetition by saying that everything you could possibly want to know about the mod is on the site, so I'd appreciate it if you could have a goosey ganders - even if the RE series disgusts you. Basically, the challenge we currently face is escaping from the dreaded Catch-22 situation. That is, being criticised and ignored for using standard HL2 content, but, because of this public dismissing, not being able to get talent onboard to replace the placeholder stuff with custom love. Thus the need for recruitment! Give it a look, my fellow Mapcorians, and wish us luck!
JynxDaddy Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Wouldn't it be better to not 'rip off' an existing game series, not only to avoid possible legal issues - but to be creative.
Tequila Posted April 16, 2005 Author Report Posted April 16, 2005 Wouldn't it be better to not 'rip off' an existing game series, not only to avoid possible legal issues - but to be creative. We're ripping off nothing. It's an original narrative set in the RE universe, and the reason we want to do it is because we're pretty much in love with the series and think it has a ridiculous amount of potential as a FPS - if done right. And thankfully, Capcom care not about mods based on their franchises, as long as they are non-commercial.
insta Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Good luck with the mod and recruiting! Although the setting has been done before numerous times, I still love zombies, which guarantees that I will download it if its ever released.
Minos Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 I like what I see, looks a lot better and serious than the other RE mods Ive seen.
Tequila Posted April 16, 2005 Author Report Posted April 16, 2005 Thanks for the comments, guys. It's about time a RE mod came to fruitition, after so many failures in the past - I intend to see it happen in my lifetime.
jimius Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Gun Survivor was a RE FPS, they made like 14 sequels
Tequila Posted April 16, 2005 Author Report Posted April 16, 2005 Certainly have played RE4; there's a lot to learn from it. And Gun Survivor is more of a lightgun game than a FPS. Plus they're rubbish, so I think we'd all rather forget about them.
ReNo Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Was it actually called "Gun Survivor" in the US, or was that just an adopted name? In the UK it was simply called "Survivor". Anyway, while it was a fairly crappy game, it wasn't as bad as most people made it out to be. It deserves some credit for taking the lightgun genre in a bit of a new direction by offering movement control and non-linearity, even if it didn't do it particularly well. Playing in an FPS and coming up against some of the classic RE enemies was also quite a novel and at times frightening experience - need I remind anybody of the first time they met RE2's trenchcoat tyrant enemy in survivor, or when you realise there are more than one of them out there to get you?

It was certainly a bit of fun, but when I played it I didn't even have a lightgun, so some of the enjoyment was lost of the annoying Dualshock controls. I didn't make the same mistake for the PS2 version, Dead Aim, which was a lot better and had a more developed story.
csharp Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Do you really have admission to use copyrighted (game)name "Residen Evil"?
RD Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 i think the name Resident evil scares away more ppl than interests em.
Tequila Posted April 17, 2005 Author Report Posted April 17, 2005 Do you really have admission to use copyrighted (game)name "Residen Evil"? Sigh, yes! I've said it so many times over the years, but once more can't hurt: Capcom allows others to use the 'Resident Evil' name as long as the enterprise is non-commercial. Which we are. And RD, you have a point, with the past failures of (lesser ) RE mods jinxing the franchise from a mod perspective, but we hope to remedy that. And RE4 has reinvigorated the series, bringing in a great deal of new fans.
Oski Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Looks very nice and moody. Despite the standard hl2 props. Good luck with the mod.
