Hey all,

So it's been forever since I've posted here but I could use some feedback and suggestions on how to ensure fair gameplay on dark / dimly lit night maps. How do you achieve a darker evening map but also help keep things fair. One of the main issues with night maps is that players can easily pull up the graphic settings and crank their gamma or raise the brightness on their monitor to achieve an unfair advantage over those that keep their gamma settings consistent across all maps. Are there any tips or suggestions on how to solve this issue?

Thanks! ..oxy..

You make the map not actually dark. Look at these maps for instance,

Not actually dark, the skybox and OOB areas may be barely lit, but the ground and places where the players are actually engaging is lit up very well.

While slightly more dimly lit, i think it still holds the same values as metalworks. Strong unnatural lighting along with brighter textures makes the level a lot more fair on gameplay while still keeping the night aesthetic.

From a players point of view, I think strong lighting is needed. In general, players do not like dark regular maps, especially where you need to turn on flashlight or night vision.

Lain's examples are pretty good.
