So this came as a surprise yesterday when my friend linked me to the Steam page for this. Got me very excited!

I'm really digging the new art style too!

And some of the new mechanics sound interesting. I especially like that there seems to be some multiplayer game modes which run shorter games which are designed to be finished in one session. More often than not me and my friends never finished games because they went on for too long or we couldn't continue on another day because one of us wasn't there. I also like the sound of the districts in the cities and the way you set up your tiles affecting how fast you research certain things.

Quote

EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.

ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.

DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.

COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.

ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.

A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems introduce new players to the underlying concepts so they can easily get started.

Anyone here a big Civ fan? Looking forward to this?

I like the brighter, more colourful look. Much more readable in a game where graphics are not very relevant.

My guess is they will also try to "streamline" the game to appeal to a broader audience and hope it doesn't end up resulting in a watered down version of 4 or 5.

I recently only got Civ 5 and I love it alot, my only concern is the requirements. I understand that the previous ones are not that heavy but my computer can barley run 5. Not sure why its £50/€60, also hopefully it's better than Beyond Earth

I really hope they have fixed the general lag that comes with anything you try to do. Tried playing a round with a friend yesterday with a round timer of 45 sec, and it is pretty hard getting enough done each round due to the slight lag on everything you click, especially late in the game with a lot of units running around.

I liked the way they said the mid game turns are now much more interesting in an interview, but I really hope the addressed the thing where during late game everybody is the same without much differentiation. I would like to have seen unique units and structures stay the same through upgrades and retain their bonuses, if nothing else to add variety at the end. Maybe we'll see that with the hidden agendas and stuff. I'm still looking forward to it, but CIV has always been like a flawed diamond to me.
