I don't like the looks of this at all. I think it would be great to have a game that is unique in its own sense rather than a SC2 copy. I will of course give this a chance but there are some really ugly moba-inspired animations in this which is just hideous. For example the hammer flip swing. My god, remove it already.

The most encouraging sign for me is that after playing Dawn of War 3 for four hours straight, I left wanting for more. It's a huge amount of fun, and whatever your take on the mechanics of the thing, what is certain is that Relic has once again nailed the Warhammer 40k feel. You can tell the studio lives and breathes 40k by the way the Orks move, by the way they stomp around, shouting at each other, beating their drums and screaming bloody murder. For years Relic has done 40k better than any other developer, and I see no reason why Dawn of War 3 will change that.

Not everyone will be enthused by this new direction for Dawn of War 3, and I get that. In truth, the game feels like a curious hybrid of not just RTS and MOBA, but of the first two Dawn of War games. It's an interesting mishmash of games and genres. Yes, it's different, but then it had to be I get the sense that Relic is taking a long-term view with Dawn of War 3, one informed by the hope the eSports community will pick it up. As interest in the RTS genre waned, Dawn of War had to change, and Dawn of War 3 is Relic's answer.

It's out 27 April :)

Did you get to work on it @AlexM?

Interest waned because no one can make a fucking good RTS anymore. "Oh no look no one plays RTS anymore we need to re invent the wheel" No you don't. Just make a good RTS and people will enjoy it again. This shit blows my mind. Look at Halo Wars. Fucking controller. What the fuck. I swear the majority of designers are pants on head retarded these days. Starcraft 2 was solid and still is. Its been out for a while now so of course it might not be as popular as it once was. What other RTS's are there? Warhammer Total DLC? Halo Controller Wars? Grey Goo was cool but no one paid any attention to it because I don't know.

And why the fuck does Dawn of War suddenly need to be an Esport game? Jesus Christ just make it a good game. But apparently you need to mess up the art style and the game to fulfil your Starcraft 2 fantasy.

I played DOW1 a lot (including all the expansions) but weirdly enough I don't think I ever played the second one :S

looking forward to this one though. Haven't played an RTS since Legacy of the Void came out I think.

Yeah I also liked Grey Goo. I feel like that game didn't get the love it deserved. When it was released though it seemed like there was no announcement or anything. I heard about it from the strategy games podcast on the idle thumbs site.

Just to clarify I don't hate Relic or any Relic bro's on here regardless of what I say (maybe SEGA). I'm just frustrated at everything the games industry does these days.

We know :)

What about a bad name that makes you think about some cartoonish 2D platformer?

In the game's defense. Grey goo is a known sci-fi term relating to when robots are so small they just appear to be grey goo.

Thanks, never heard of it despite being a sci-fi reader. Guess it's because I've read only a few in English. I thought was somehow a reference to brain jelly.

I bet you that like 5% gamers from the street -at best- would understand the reference.

Hence it's a bad name.

I am SO looking forward to this game to see how it plays.

Visually everything they have shown so far is absolutely incredible. Just seeing that orc army move around is so incredibly juicy. All the VFX, animations... ahhh just hope gameplay can keep up with that. There seems to be so much polish, it's inspiring.
