spa Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 Thats by far the most ambitious trailer from Games Workshop Ive seen so far. Really dig the artistic direction and the score. However the render quality didnt seem like the leap i was hoping for. Great trailer nonetheless! Curious about the direction of the game. If they will go more Total War or more Moba. Does anyone know? Quote

Plus there's a big empahsis on huge units. Here are some screenshots: Quote

dux Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) I dunno what is going on with the Space Marines in the trailer, they look so skinny and gangly looking. Like Jack Skelington in power armour. Not sure what to think of the art direction, either. Seems they have gone for the blizzard look for some reason. Been looking forward to this for a long time and so far... disappoint. Here's hoping it improves over time. Edited May 4, 2016 by dux Quote

Been looking forward to this for a long time and so far... disappoint. Here's hoping it improves over time. I'm probably overthinking it. But to me, it seems to be done on purpose. In the trailer, the Space Marines really get their asses kicked. Their skinny look makes them appear even more vulnerable. Keeping in mind the ending of the previous game (including DLC) it's understandable that this is the Blood Ravens darkest hour. This also ties in with what we see and what's said in the trailer. They are looking up at a statue of an authority figure and they then try to withstand the blast. To me, this refers to previously mentioned betrayal within their ranks and their fight against the taint of Chaos. Then we see the battle and their everlasting foes try to finish the job. All seem to die but you see the main character smiling because it's a good death. They defied Chaos and died in glory fighting the enemies of the Imperium for the everlasting Emperor. Oh, and I really like the art direction. Quote
dux Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 You don't need warped, malnutrition-ed Astartes to convey that image, though. Just poor quality to me compared to the dow 2 trailer which nailed everything. I don't want DoW3 to look like a Blizzard game. I want it to look like a Relic game Early days sure, but it isn't filling me with confidence. It's SEGA behind the wheel this time, not THQ. And I really don't like SEGA. Quote
Puddy Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Really thought the trailer was awful! Lots of melodramatic gibberish and janky animations that remind me of this. I loved Dawn of War 1 tho and the screens look cool, so I'm cautiously optimistic! dux and PogoP 2 Quote
Sprony Posted June 14, 2016 Author Report Posted June 14, 2016 They adress @dux his art style concerns. They heard he liked games so they tried to calm him, right @(HP)? Quote
Thrik Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Oh it's definitely gone in a more Blizzard-esque art direction. The stylisation really does look like it could have come out of StarCraft. It looks beautiful though, I was never all that keen on the gritty and grimy look of the older games. Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Yes, it has some Starcraft vibes indeed, gameplay wise too, looks like they ditched the cover and suppression gameplay of Company of heroes. Quote
dux Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Horrible art style for this games universe. I have waited so long for a new DoW game and this has made me lose all interest. Quote
dux Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 Looks horrible. Sounds horrible. Another personally massive disappointment incoming. Quote
