st0lve Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I must have spent hundreds of hours of my early teenage years playing Rogue Spear. What a game. Did you play on Zone or Gamespy? Cause I played for like 2 years straight on GSA, play in a few really good clans, damn the best people I ever have played with on the internet. Too bad RvS messed it all up Quote
Tequila Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I must have spent hundreds of hours of my early teenage years playing Rogue Spear. What a game. Did you play on Zone or Gamespy? Cause I played for like 2 years straight on GSA, play in a few really good clans, damn the best people I ever have played with on the internet. Too bad RvS messed it all up I was stuck with LAN play, since I didn't even have the internet back then! Still, 'twas a great experience having all my teammates in the same room as me, co-ordinating our efforts. Quote

jayrabbit Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Good thread Hopefully we will slow down a bit on the graphics side soon, and focus on other areas such as AI, immersion etc. Good point! Look at Half-Life 2. I mean the graphics, the physics, characters and all the other things are really great, but the AI is almost the same as the one in HL1. (Somehow I think the marines were even smarter than these combine guys...) There was almost no progress of the AI in the whole game industry the last few years. Even in Splinter Cell 3 the enemies aren't that much smarter than the guardians in Thief 1! So next step should be an AI revolution - forget about all these parallax maps and stuff. Quote
Mazy Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 fuck i hated the xbox version of ninja gaiden, so fckn hard, i just ended giving up on it cuz some of the later parts of the game were near impossible (for me anyway) Quote
D3adlode Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 I prefer the old times really, back when you could run Wolf 3D on a 486 with no slowdown! Nowadays games tend to recycle a lot of old stuff just with swanky fuck-off graphics engines to hide how unoriginal the games are. Quote
DaanO Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Let's all hope no gamer will realise that for years so we can all just go on doing what we like. By the way, something like Warcraft 3 is insane. In cases like that better graphics actually add something so it's all good. But i do agree that in general, games are only looking prettier, gameplay not always getting better Quote
mikezilla Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 awesome thread. I just have to point out that the person who started it posted a duke3d screenshot under "doom 2" sigh. Quote
st0lve Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Well it was nexus, what can you expect? Quote

D3adlode Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 DOOM FOREVER WILL BE RELEASED WHEN IT'S DONE...oh wait.. Quote
jimius Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 The only real problem with even better graphics is that development times will increase and costs will go up. EA already said it's next-gen games are going to be at least 10 bucks more expensive becuase of this. Powerful 3D hardware is nice, but if it takes 5 years to make a game, you can't take chances and you can't risk innovating. Gameplay uber alles Quote
