I recommend trying to replicate a photo reference of what you are trying to create : -) if it is New York google a bit and make a folder of references and then you pick out the details you think would fit the best

Don´t know about any articles though :( likely someone else here that knows more : -)!

I don't think there's much in the way of articles. I've learnt a lot on here reading through old threads for big maps (de_ali is a good example) though so you might want to try that. There's no hard rules when it comes to detailing though- it's art and subjective.

if you are aiming for an operation map I would be looking at the base maps and community maps that have gotten in the game - decompile them and think about how they are built up.

The biggest mistake I see in playtests is overusing props and textures from the default library and trying to make them fit in- rather than using the stuff that fits the scene already. Less is more.
