It is the year 2142. While earth continues to stagnate under ancient provincial rivalries, outer space is the new frontier, calling to those with adventurous spirit and iron will. The discovery of an alien mineral in a remote system has caused the largest prospecting boom since the late nineteenth century gold rush. Promise of untold wealth lure countless citizens off-world to discover the next new element on the periodic table...

Hostile Planet is an MMORPG/FPS modification of the Half-Life 2 engine. In the game, rival groups of players battle for control of the planet's resources in order better themselves and their organization.

The team behind Hostile Planet is currently looking for serious and talented artists to help build the game world.

Available positions are as follows:

· Concept artists.

· Mappers capable of designing dense urban and outdoor levels, extensive knowledge of the hammer editor is required (proper use of hint/detail brushing etc)

· Character/Weapon modelers, skinners, and animators.

· General (world) modeling and texture work.

Extremely impressive; the team really must be working as a cohesive whole following some detailed planning to produce features of that calibre. Good luck bringing it to fruitition, because I imagine turning the Source engine into a MMORPG is going to be a massive headache.

Yea, that looks awesome. I'll definetly be playing this upon release (which i know could be a while).

How do you do MMORPG stuff in source? what keeps track of experience / level and that kind of thing? Is your coder making it do that on a server run by you guys or is the experience / level stuff run client side? Dear god i hope its not client side, there will be haxors.

I'm sure it would be server side, client side would be crazy for an MMO (unless there was some small amount of server side info that was used to verify the accuracy of the client side stuff I guess). Loving that you've got so far, and its great to see a mod focusing on and showing off new features rather than weapon renders or more maps using standard textures. Keep it up, and good luck finding staff.

My apologies for the website troubles, but your patience will not go un-rewarded! I have updated the gallery with 2 new screenshots, and 2 ingame videos in the video section! Partly for the technical troubles and partly due to large numbers of people suggesting our work was photoshopped or an April fools joke, Enjoy!

The ingame explorer and the hacking system is fkin' badass. This project is looking very promising.

Too bad that apart from screenshots and the story, there is not much information about the actual game. How is the economy, stats etc. gonna work? What featues to you plan to have in the game?

We'll be releasing that info very soon, it's mostly all been designed, and alot of it is ingame at this point, but we're not ready to reveal specifics yet.
