-HP- Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Mafia 1 is still one of the best games I've EVER played. The story is so damn good, so damn well written and played, It really amazes me how this game is not more well known or talked about, which it qualifies as a cult classic in my book. (That racing mission tho......)Only played a couple hours of Mafia 2, but it didn't really grabbed me. I don't know, will be keeping an eye on tho. This game is a fucking masterpiece, go do it NOWI'm glad Mafia 3 is announced, I hope they will keep doing things the way they do, I loved Mafia 2 so much ! Quote
-HP- Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Did you play Mafia 1 too? Because that's why I think the second didn't feel so appealing to me... they bogged a lot of what made the first one so good to apeal to the console market most likely. But I'm more than willing to giving it another whirl. Edited July 29, 2015 by (HP) blackdog 1 Quote
blackdog Posted July 29, 2015 Author Report Posted July 29, 2015 Yeah I'm with HP. Mafia is a masterpiece... I loved it so much I never replayed it cos I was scared it would ruin my memory of it.That's why I was incredibly hyped for the sequel, but lost more and more interest when it got closer and then released, as lot of people where criticizing. I finally was able to try it on the Xbox and found it really average, felt like a GTA clone instead of a game with its own identity. Thanks to the announcement is greatly discounted on Steam atm, I'll think about it -HP- 1 Quote
Pampers Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Mafia 2 wasn't a bad game, but I prefer the first one, due to the missions being more believable and it felt like a mafia movie, rather than a blockbuster like the second one will2k, -HP- and blackdog 3 Quote
Sprony Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Didn't the second one flop? It certainly didn't create the buzz the first one did. Quote

Puddy Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Mafia 2 was sort of mediocre/bad if you ask me, not outright terrible perhaps. It completely dropped the ball and it lost the magic that the first one had. It looked pretty good though if I remember correctly.Hoping they can get back on track with the third one! blackdog 1 Quote
Buddy Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 It was chopped up to smaller game than intended, portion of it was converted to a time-skipping cutscene. Core gameplay elements were solid, driving, shooting, stealth etc. though and it was fun to play albeit dissapointing overall. Sprony and Pampers 2 Quote
Mazy Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Yup, the first Mafia is a classic, Mafia II had moments where it was pretty good, but overall it just felt like an empty world with soulless characters and mechanics that (as far as I remember) felt like they were from a 5 older game at the time.Interested in seeing what's up with this new one, supposedly it's been in a bit of development hell (2K Czech being pretty much booted off the project, supposedly), but I hope they've got something good on their hands, I'm a sucker for these period based games. leplubodeslapin Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Ok to be honest I haven't played the first one because i was only 10 years old when it released, i didn't have a computer at that time and i wasn't even into videogames that much except with the playstation 1 we had. I'm going to play it asap, since you say it was a great game. But really, i'm extremely surprised that you didn't like the 2nd Mafia. As I told you I haven't played the first one and I didn't follow what the media said about it so I played it without preconceptions. And the things that impressed me a lot is the universe in which you're set, I loved it so much. It was clear that the game wasn't made by a team as experienced as Rockstar Games in Open Worlds, there were some problems and there wasn't much to do but ... damn it was so credible and immersive ! Even today, since it was a very good looking game, i'm 100% sure you can easily appreciate it (even after having played GTA 5). And the story was maybe a bit predictable but I don't see much games in which i care that much about the characters, I was really into it.From what i read you haven't really tried that much the game, and for me it's really a game you have to take the time to profit. Even just to visit the city it's so enjoyable ... Ok i have to admit it, I love the 50s But really please go do the second one, it's really a great game, forget about what people said and Mafia 1. I'm not easily impressed by games in general, so i'm very surprised that a title i loved so much isn't appreciated by others Puddy 1 Quote
blackdog Posted July 29, 2015 Author Report Posted July 29, 2015 Play the first one, you'll be amazed by what they had achieved considering the machines available at the time.Surely they've been doing sandboxes for less than Rockstar, but lots of the secondary activities are in GTA just because they can afford to pay a thousand people. I haven't played GTA5, I know there's shitload but until the 4th most accessory stuff was just filler content. Sure, it's all "necessary" to make it feel more immersive and alive. -HP- 1 Quote
dux Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 Never played the first Mafia game. Played the second instead and loved it as it had just come out. So tried to play the first after I had finished Mafia 2 and didn't enjoy it. I was too late to the party. Super stoked for #3 though! Pampers 1 Quote
