Beck Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 So this was announced at the Sony conference at E3 last night. I knew Yu Suzuki was at E3 but didn't expect to see this announced. Especially after 14 years...Currently it's got a Kickstarter page which has almost reached it's goal of $2million already.https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3 Any other fans of the series here? Beck Posted June 16, 2015 Author Report Posted June 16, 2015 Haha I would have reacted the same if I found out at home. I found out when I got to work so I had to contain my excitement a little I've already pledged. Cannot wait! Quote
Steppenwolf Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 This is one of these games that make me feel like some old guy who doesn't understand the youth. Ther's so much hype around it but i have no connection to it whatsoever. All i know is you're some guy who can use vending machines and do some quick time events. PaulH, Vaya and PogoP 3 Quote

Minos Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) It sucks that they are using kickstarter to gather free money and publicity for this... Who can make a Shenmue game with 2 million dollars? Shit, the original cost 70 million back in the day Stuff like this skews the public's perception on how much a game really costs and fucks everyone over. DrywallDreams Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 It's how Japanese studios seem to be doing things these days, seed interest with a big name Kickstarter, then throw more money at it. Quote
Beck Posted June 16, 2015 Author Report Posted June 16, 2015 As Drywall said, it's being used to prove there is an interest for the game. cashed Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 I actually think it shows Sony in a bad light. Why did they not just fund them... El Moroes and Mazy 2 Quote

It's like that Castlevania remake (or whatever it was) Kickstarter a month or so back that was also used as a way of gauging the public interest, with investors ready if they got funded. It might be totally legit to do it this way in the Kickstarter guidelines, but it really puts Kickstarter projects in a bad light when they ask for funding that obviously don't make out the entire budget and therefore skew the public's perception of how much it actually costs to produce games, the loser here being small indie games that actually have to rely solely on the funding they get through the Kickstarter. Beck Posted May 12, 2016 Author Report Posted May 12, 2016 Sweet! Would make sense with the hype 3 will build and there will be new players to 3 who haven't played the originals and would likely pick it up. Do it, Sega! Quote
