Yeah it's pretty good. The first track sounds almost a bit Pink Floyd esque, love that guitar sound. However, the soundtrack in general hasn't really gripped me as much as, say, Interstellar.

The Martian - definitely enjoyable in a lot of ways. Interstellar had more wowzers, but it's definitely one of the best movies of '15 and of our 10s.

Despite having read the book before, I very much enjoyed the movie. The struggle for survivial didn't get across as much as in the book, but obviously they had to leave out a lot of the details. I do wonder though:

How do people who haven't read the book feel about the hatch blowing up? That got teased heavily throughout the book and there was no explanation for it in the movie or I missed it.

I remenber living in Germany was a bit frustrating because dubbed movies were actually the "standard" over there, no one has the habit of reading subtitles so they dubbed every movie and you'd need to look for special cinemas to would play the original. That is fucking retarded tbh, you wouldn't want to listen to your favourit bands in your language either.

I can find the original version and here is France it's still easy to watch the movies like that, you'll find the UGC theaters for that and that's cool, but the release is the same than the traducted movie.

I listened to the audiobook a month(?) ago and saw the movie today. Very much enjoyed the movie although wish I hadn't read the book before as it 1) obviously spoiled the movie 2) I was constantly comparing the movie to the book while watching it. I loved the opening scene with the Alien tribute (title and music). Solid 3.5 / 5.0

 

Book spoilers / comparison & whine ahead

Overall I think it was a good film adaptation of the book. A few things that I would have liked to see in the film:

- Losing communication to JPL before long roadtrip to MAV (because it made the road moar dangerous / thrilling)

- The big storm during roadtrip to MAV (because JPL observing the situation helplessly creates moar desperation)

- Triangulating direction of the storm (because it was a very cool way to deal with the problem)

Yeap, definitely agree with the spoilered comments above. Although, again, you can only cram so much content in a 2 hour movie, if you want the more detailed experience, the book is not gonna go anywhere.
