Shamless crosspost from Polycount:

For almost a decade I had this amazing piece of concept art of a futuristic looking "Rollerblade-Helicopter" in my "inspiration" folder.
On the day I saw it I promised myself: "That is so awesome ... one day you will build this thing in 3D". I would love to credit the person that originally came up with this design ... some polycount guys gave me some hot leads as to who it could be but none of the suggested artists had this peace in their portfolios or answered to my messages.
So lets consider this my "Tribute" to the anonymous artist who designed this Badboy! The mesh has 1.3 million triangles and is made out of a mix of uniquely modeled large shapes and lots of chaotic kit-bashing for small details. It has 6 "pbr" materials that are not calibrated to real world values but to my aesthetic sensibility. These are not prerendered images but real-time viewport grabs (using Koddes amazing pbr shader that you can fine here:http://www.kostas.se/shaderfx-tga-pbl-shader/ ) plus a ton of post production in Photoshop.

would love some views and likes and perhaps even a follow on artstation ... I hear that stuff does wonders for your ego ^^ :

The Black-letterboxing is on purpose I tried to make each picture look as much as a frame of a movie as my meager composting skills would allow. I also acknowledge that having motion blur in the background but no motion blur on the rotor blades makes no sense a all ...I plain simple could not figure out a way to blur the blades that looked any good.

Looks awesome!

You could get motion blur for your blades with rendering some frames of your blades doing a rotation and putting that into a video editing software like after effects which has a filter for motion blur. Easy to tweak the numbers afterwards to get the effect you like.

I dont have After FX -_-

btw this is the original concept i am still interested in finding out (confirming!!!) who painted this:

Very nice work!

Some feedback: the renders would need at least some more ambient lighting if not a GI/IBL pass (not sure if the shader supports it) instead of the studio lighting setup as a lot of detail seems to be getting lost. Or/and exposure tweaks if that is the problem. Or/and tweak the base colour, albedo (or diffuse/specular colour, however it is set up in the material) value, check the documentation to find the plausible value ranges. For example comparing to the concept, the small details near the landing gear and the dual color paint job look really cool, but it is really hard to make it out in the renders. Some brighter colours and contrast would make the images "pop" a bit more imho.

The motion blur should be doable in both PS as well as straight in render (that if it was prerendered ofc).

Btw your link to the shader resources redirects to this very page if clicked not copied;)

On a random sidenote however awesome the design looks, it be interesting to see it actually fly because it would definitely not do it upright :P
