KOLARI Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 I have been getting alot of vac authentication errors on CSGO and it has been pissing me off. Tried all the fixes I could find with no help. And if this is not enough, I tried to reinstall Steam without knowing it would delete all my games with it... And guess what? I lost all my vmf files for my maps. Fucking great. Is there any chance to get them back. Is there like some backup folder for hammer vmf files or something? Quote
KOLARI Posted May 18, 2015 Author Report Posted May 18, 2015 Thanks. It seems to contain some autosaves. Hopefully they are not too old. Quote
Thrik Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Don't forget that Windows has built-in folder versioning, which keeps dated backups of files and folders if your hard drive space permits. Try right clicking on the folder where your lost files were and selecting 'previous versions' or something like that in properties. If there's nothing there, try going to parent folders. I don't know how well it copes with whole trees of folders but it's saved my butt a few times. Quote
Pampers Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 yes, Gabe is the one to blame when you delete your own maps Quote
KOLARI Posted May 18, 2015 Author Report Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) Yes I have tried every one of those fixes already and many more. Reinstalling steam didn't fix the error either. There are literally hundreds of threads about this error since 2014 and nothing has been done about it... I haven't even done any changes to my computer until I suddenly begin to get it. I guess it's my own stupidity not to backup the files but I had no idea that when I uninstall steam, it would delete all the games/tools too :/ Anyways, lesson learned. Would be happy to recover models and textures I had made. Quote
