blackdog Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Yeah, I've heard rumors that sounds like Cage* will be referenced/make appearance in DD to setup his own show. Am I the only one finding a bit odd that they are choosing to drop entire seasons for shows like these, then other Netflix exclusives like Better Call Saul is released weekly? Seems like this stuff is getting a lot of traction, you would expect they'd dose it. That being said, Netflix is on a rampage, there's so much exclusive stuff coming out... I haven't even opened Amazon Prime for at least 2 months. I must have forced myself to watch a couple of random movies just to justify that I'm paying it. *I have no idea what this (super)hero does, never heard before the JJ show. Thrik 1 Quote
Thrik Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Haha yeah it's incredible how good Netflix is for original content now. I've only just started beasting House of Cards season four which is a massive improvement on #3 already. I think that Better Call Saul is a weird exception in that it's not actually a Netflix exclusive, but is licensed to Netflix for the UK market — so it airs as it airs in the US. It's a bit like how Netflix US sometimes gets the exclusive rights to stuff from the BBC and ITV and they market those as 'Netflix Original' over there. I went into Jessica Jones not having any idea about her character and hadn't even heard of Luke Cage. It's best if you do that IMO because the show isn't actually that much about her power, but more about what was done to her in the past and its ongoing effects (which has a lot of parallels to real-life emotional abuse and sexual assault). The superpowers are kind of a way of making it easier to relate to. Anyway, the level of quality Netflix is putting into these shows is astonishing. Their TV universe is shaping up just as well as the linked M movie universe. It makes DC look really bad lol. Quote
Vorontsov Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 My body can't handle this. From what I've read, it's coming out in 2 days? 18th March. Quote

And is very late to the party, but honestly looks to be shaping up much better than what Marvel (or companies licensing their IPs) has given us till now, which has been an hit and miss. Like all Thor movies have been shit, Wolverine movies as well. 2/3 Iron Man were barely decent (or shit depending on the audience). DC has taken it's time but it looks like is gonna be cohesive from the start. I'm not entirely sure about stuff like Aquaman that is always made fun of, but for the rest looks really good. Better than Marvel in the sense that their stuff looks more mature, while Marvel's still caters to 12sters. I'm sure that Netflix or Amazon would open their arms wide open to get DC stuff "on air". It's a shame that "smaller" characters have been given out to the likes of The CW, Arrow is alright, I watch it because there are interesting bits, but is more like I watch it imagine the potential. Afterall is supposed to be a Batman with bow, how could it get better than that? Edited March 16, 2016 by blackdog Quote

Thrik Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 I just watched episode seven and I can quite confidently say I've enjoyed this more than the first season so far. They've really nailed the pacing and it doesn't have as linear a 'taking down the bad guy' narrative like before, more twisting and complexity involved. Also the action is ridiculously well executed as always. Spoiler I love the contrast between the 'relentless serious killing machine' and 'I don't give a shit' vigilante styles of The Punisher and Elektra. I guess that Daredevil is meant to sit somewhere in-between and they represent how you can go too far in either direction. I also wasn't expecting The Punisher to be taken off the streets as the main threat so quickly, so it suddenly going all 'Elektra and Yakuza' was a refreshing change of direction after all that fury. Episode six really made me think of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for some reason. I think it was the music and sneaking around the big high-tech building. Makes me want to dig it out and play it. Vorontsov Posted April 4, 2016 Author Report Posted April 4, 2016 I have 0 complaints & I am confident that they are now going to release a Punisher series. They have to. My favourite """hero""". Really enjoying these series, too bad that I binge the whole season of these shows in a day, Jessica Jones was also really awesome beyond my expectations. Spoiler Well there was an entire army on the rooftops in the last episode and we don't get to see DD & Elektra go ham on all of them? Quote
Thrik Posted April 5, 2016 Report Posted April 5, 2016 The gore in episode nine. Jesus! When the Punisher kills all the prisoners. Vorontsov 1 Quote
-HP- Posted April 5, 2016 Report Posted April 5, 2016 I'm still in s2ep2 so i'll be staying away from this thread for a while, but so far so awesome! The actor that plays the Punisher is a natural born badass. blackdog 1 Quote
Sprony Posted April 8, 2016 Report Posted April 8, 2016 Yeah man, these shows are good. I can only hope for a standalone Punisher show. But more of all, I hope Netflix will pick up Dredd. That last movie was fucking awesome! Quote
blackdog Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Yeah guys, didn't you read it? The Punisher stand-alone show is already approved, even before the Daredevil S2 came out. First Luke Cage in September tho. PS: there's another show planned as well, something like Iron Fist? A guy in yellow suit, I think friend with Luke Cage. It's gonna be portrayed by the gay knight from Game Of Thrones, the blonde that Sansa was hoping to marry to get away from King's Landing. If you are interested in little details, tidbits, rumours, I suggest following Emergency Awesome on YT, I quite like it. He condenses a lot information on things like origin stories and powers that you would have otherwise to read on Wikipedia. He also often suggests the best comic book version to read to get a background on that certain character/movie. Edited April 9, 2016 by blackdog Sprony and Vorontsov 2 Quote
Thrik Posted April 9, 2016 Report Posted April 9, 2016 I'd love to see more of The Punisher but I'm not convinced a show that's purely his will happen. Netflix is clearly OK with its heroes being killers but The Punisher takes it to the extreme — he's effective but arguably out of control. I think it's more likely he'll appear in another character's series again. It's unclear which way it'll go from the rumours AFAIK. Holy shit was season two of Daredevil good overall though, just finished it tonight. Admittedly I was expecting a slightly more intense fight scene in the finale, but it was still a satisfying conclusion and there's a lot of excellent material for season three. I also enjoyed the increasing number of characters, locations, and references from Jessica Jones. Presumably these series are all going to get more and more intertwined. Netflix is sitting on serious gold with this TV universe. Really looking forward to Luke Cage. We've already seen him go through a lot in Jessica Jones so it'll be really interesting to see where they take him in his own series. There weren't really any clues about that from what I saw. Quote
blackdog Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 You're right Thrik, thought was confirmed but can't find articles. Everyone (critics/commenters/viewers) seem to give it for granted now, since was portrayed so well. There were interesting speculation from the nerds about Punisher, in the sense that he has a lot to do with Deadpool as well in the comics, and I think another character, suggesting that a show could be sort of a shared space for two (anti)heroes.
