Vorontsov Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) I applied a smoothing group to this whole rounded corner [smoothing Group 3] This one aswell [smoothing Group 2] This one seems to work except for where the smoothing group ends, it's noticeable in the image. Halp pls? [smoothing Group 1] Imgur album incase you can't view: http://imgur.com/a/dejPf Edited April 28, 2015 by Vorontsov Quote
onebit Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Vertexes meet? Up the lightmap? Full compile? Quote
TheOnLY Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Try loweing the lightmap value / increasing its resolution. Quote
leplubodeslapin Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Try to apply your texture with the Alt + Right Clic method. In case you don't know it : apply the texture to one of the 2 main walls of your corner with the texture Tool. Select the face, hold the ALT button and right-clic to the face just next to it. Il will develop the texture, by taking as a reference not the world but the face you previously selected (but it's not dynamic, it's just taking the current state of the face selected as a reference). After that, select the texture you just developped and repeat the same method until you reach the other main wall. Then, the lightmap grid will be alligned perfectly, instead of being aligned weirdly. If it still doesn't work, do as TheOnly said : lower the lightmap a bit. This topic might help you : Quote

Vorontsov Posted April 29, 2015 Author Report Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) Yeah I know my texturing, appreaciate it though. I will try lowering the lightmap grid in that case. Cheers. Edit: Shit sounds cocky, what I mean is I'm intermediate / advanced with hammer, I just run into issues like these occasionaly Edited April 29, 2015 by Vorontsov Quote
Vorontsov Posted April 29, 2015 Author Report Posted April 29, 2015 Textures are perfectly aligned (both upper and lower part) and I lowered the lightmap grid to 8, but the lightmaps are not aligned for some reason? Wat do Quote
leplubodeslapin Posted April 29, 2015 Report Posted April 29, 2015 No problem i understand, it was just in case. And still, it can help others people reading this. Make sure you do the Texture manipulation in 3D texturing view (not lightmap view), i really don't know why but it doesn't work if you're in 3D lightmap view while making this. If it still doesn't work, can you try with another SDK? Like the csgo SDK for example, because i'm sure it works with it. A friend of mine also had a similar problem and he was working on an HL2 mod so maybe it's due to your version of hammer, i don't know. Vorontsov 1 Quote
Vorontsov Posted April 29, 2015 Author Report Posted April 29, 2015 The lightmap mode works if you texture in any other mode as you said, I went into lightmap mode after I had aligned everything and lowered the lightmaps a bit and for some reason they still weren't align, I'll try remaking the wall later and see if I get a different result. It's also indeed the CS:GO SDK. Quote
esspho Posted April 29, 2015 Report Posted April 29, 2015 You can clearly see that your textures are not aligned in horizontal direction. The alt+rightclick method works like a charm on this. Simply highlight one segment and alt / rightclick the one next to it ... and so on. Quote
leplubodeslapin Posted April 29, 2015 Report Posted April 29, 2015 It's weird that it doesn't work. Can you send us a vmf of this please ? To check if it works here Quote
Vorontsov Posted April 29, 2015 Author Report Posted April 29, 2015 As I was going to send you guys a vmf in a seperate file something weird happend, when I pasted into a whole new "project" just the walls for you the lightmaps changed themselves to ALMOST perfectly aligned. Maybe a weird glitch? I will look into this further first and if nothing helps I'll try sending you a .vmf. You can clearly see that your textures are not aligned in horizontal direction. The alt+rightclick method works like a charm on this. Simply highlight one segment and alt / rightclick the one next to it ... and so on. Yes that's the point, the textures are perfectly aligned that's what I've been saying the whole thread but for some reason the lightmaps are not. Will try to fix this in several methods first and then maybe upload a vmf here if nothing works. Cheers. Also, should I smooth corners like these together? Quote
leplubodeslapin Posted April 29, 2015 Report Posted April 29, 2015 Also, should I smooth corners like these together? No i don't think it's a good idea, I think it's great to have a line here, to help the understanding of the geometry for the player Vorontsov 1 Quote
louie Posted April 29, 2015 Report Posted April 29, 2015 Also, should I smooth corners like these together? Smoothing groups only work on faces that are connected in a 45 degrees angle or less. Also how does your geometry look from above? because I tried it out myself like so: obviously with smoothing groups on all the rounded corners, but I ran into another problem when I made the top left corner as you can see here: the solution i found is pretty impractical and weird but the corner you can see in the lower left corner is working correctly, as you can see here: Vorontsov 1 Quote
