Muffin Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 Is there any way to create cs go models using free software? Like blender? I want to craft some custom models later on for my map and I don't know how to make them. If there is a video tutorial or something I would appreciate that as we'll. Quote
laminutederire Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 Sketchup has a plug-in to export vmf and smd, it works well but there are some habits yo take,I can help you with that if you need! Blender has one too but I didn't succeed in making it work maybe it has a new version, I'll check when I will have more time ! Hope it could help you! Quote

jakuza Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 The Blender plugin works fine. Then just use Crowbar for compiling, because it actually works. Quote

Vorontsov Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 3ds max is very expensive, but very good. If you do get the paid version and learn it inside out you won't regret it, but if you want to try it out / can't buy it nobody will blame you for pirating it either. The easiest way that I know of is using 3ds max and using a plugin called Wallworm that is specifically made for the Source engine pipeline (I think that's how you call it). So you can model and texture inside there and export it to Source with this godlike plugin. Muffin 1 Quote
TheGuma Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 I'm pretty sure you can get student 3ds Max version for free. It sucks though that it costs around 3000$ if you don't want to pay monthly. Quote

leplubodeslapin Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 I am using blender to create models on Source, I think it's a good solution. Here is a great tutorial to begin with, if you already know the basics of what a mesh is and few things. http://cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/modeling-uvmapping-and-texturing-a-low-poly-t-rex-in-blender-part-1--cg-12763 It is a really useful tutorial because it gives you a lot of shortcuts and modeling methods. The problem with blender (and i guess other softwares have this too) is that there are tons of tools and shortcuts you need to learn, it's not as easy to begin as Hammer but way more powerful. Sometimes, you just have to go for it, introductions that last hours can be annoying and miss the point here : you want to learn how to do 3D models. Then, this T-rex tutorial is perfect for that, it's a complex shape (it's not just a table with 3 chairs around) but it's doable. So i think that if you want to do models for Source, you should first try to learn one of the softwares (for example Blender, or 3DSMax, Maya ...), the export/compilation can be learned later.
