LATTEH Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 So they recompiled all the levels? Well looks like I need to play through it again. Quote
-HP- Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 I'm confused? It seems this is not an update, it's just another mod? Also, we already had cinematic mod, but I actually like how tame this is, just a slight face lift. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 I saw the trailer today and read the pdf brochure from the guy behind it. Most pretentious shit i've came across in recent times. Made me cringe so hard to read this. Quote

Cinematic mod ruins the entire aesthetic of hl2, it is a total failure of a mod, reminds me of half the graphics mods for Skyrim that add trees and plants everywhere, complete failure to understand the aesthetic and theme of certain areas. -HP- Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 rotfl... point taken, although to their defense, both the music and the characters can easily be turned off. Quote

blackdog Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Seems like a legit update that doesn't mess with the core experience. Quote

Thrik Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Seems pretty cool to me. I always disliked the cinematic mod because it just threw Valve's art direction out of the window. It did some nice things, but so much was compromised that it wasn't worth it. It was like playing the game through the lens of sub-par fan art. This update might not be suited to those looking for a new and breathtaking experience, but it looks like a tasteful and restrained polish that preserves the original game's qualities while fixing some of the shortcomings. The closest comparison is probably the HD re-releases of older games we see on consoles, which also tweak the lighting and image processing, in addition to resolving bugs. Squad 1 Quote
