So I learned how to animate in Maya this week! ^_^

So I'm doing game design at Uni and one of my classes is an introductory 3D class where we learn how to model and do all that other magic in Maya. Well 6 weeks into the course and I finally learned to animate and rig basic models. So today I decided to throw myself in the deep end and attempt to create my own animations for the Sawed Off shotgun from CS:GO.

Be sure to +1 uprate Volvo put this in-game and give me one (plus ascii art). :P

For reals though, any tips would be appreciated because I would love to practice animating more so I can make stuff look cool. :)

Draw Animation

Reload Animation

Idle Animation

Fire Animation

Niiice!

I think they look a little restricted and unconvincing atm. They might look better if arms/hands were included, but the I think the firing animation needs a real burst of acceleration before halting quite quickly, to try and give the impression of power (if that makes sense?).

Maybe watch some reference videos of people handling firearms as well?

This guy Hyper, is fantastic. there's a real fluidity to his animations, check him out:

He also has more silly stuff like an infinitely looping AK banana magazine, or a magazine that's 3 metres long being stuffed into a glock.

Hehe, Hyper is where I got the idea to try animating a weapon! Absolutely love his stuff, really is inspiring.

I'm going to attempt to create and rig up some arms soon because it's difficult to show what I'm imagining without them. I honestly think just more practice will help a lot. This is the third day I've ever animated in 3D.

Thanks for the help mate! <3

No worries!

Maybe invest in a cheap BB gun and film yourself doing an action from multiple angles? A cheap sort of mocap if you will, but reference from all round!
