Puddy Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Hey guys! I'm going to be in LA some time next month and I was wondering if there is something I, as a Swede, really should check out while I'm there. I'm there on business so I might not be able to squeeze in a lot, but we'll see. Also, don't exactly know who's in LA at this point but if anyone wants to grab a beer, lemme know. Quote
-HP- Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Go check the griffith observatory, santa monica pier, venice beach, etc. Good streets to check out are Sunset bldv, holywood bldv and don't forget to check out Beverly hills. I can also recommend you drive south through the 1, and check out Newport, Huntington and Laguna beach. Depending on when you're here, i might be up for a beer. Sentura, Minos and Puddy 3 Quote
Minos Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Definitely recommend the Griffith Observatory if you are a space geek, it's my favorite place in LA There's also the Space Shuttle downtown which I highly recommend (costs like 3 bux and you will never forget it). If you like art there are the Getty Villa and Getty Museums, both pretty cool (and free) Avoid Hollywood at all costs if you are short on time, it sucks. A lot. (Unless you like going to tourist traps and paying 30 bucks to see wax people) Venice is cool if you like drugs and mid-century architecture. Santa Monica is a nice if you are looking for touristy areas, there's some cool shops and vistas there. I've been to Malibu once and it was kinda boring but nevertheless it's still a cool beach if you are coming from Sweden Some more stuff to do: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g32655-Activities-Los_Angeles_California.html Are you coming down to OC? If so we could get a mini-mapcore meeting and grab some beerz General Vivi and Puddy 2 Quote
blackdog Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 They used to say when you were visiting Chicago in the 90s that you should have gone seeing Michael Jordan. I think it's valid for Kobe Bryant as well 8-D Quote
Puddy Posted January 24, 2015 Author Report Posted January 24, 2015 Hey guys, thanks for the tips! I'm not sure how much time off I'll get but I think I'll be back in time for E3 and then I'll definitely have more time to check it all out. Will let you know exact dates as soon as I know them. I think the office is near Hollywood actually, not sure where that puts me in relation to you guys as my LA geography knowledge is pretty much nil (all I know is that the place is friggin huge). Pericolos0 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 One of my favorite things to do in LA is go see some improv comedy at the groundlings theatre and then hit some dive bars in West Hollywood (which is actually cool, unlike hollywood which is probably the most disappointing place on earth). So yeah, I recommend that for a fun night out. As a tourist Venice beach is also a lot of fun to visit, probably best place to get that california vibe as an outsider . Puddy, -HP- and Sprony 3 Quote

D3ads Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Why bother going there, just play GTA V, it's the same thing... j/k lul. You'll be fine as long as you don't drive, my cousin lives there and with the stories I've heard about traffic there, it's a miracle she hasn't had an accident yet... Quote

Pericolos0 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Driving in LA is pretty chill, a lot more crazy drivers in europe, if you ask me . If you use GPS just make sure you turn off "avoid traffic" though, as avoiding traffic will guide you straight into the ghetto lol. Warby, D3ads, Zezeri and 4 others 7 Quote

America is one of the nicest places to drive. Absolutely loved it. If you want bad traffic, go to Eastern Europe Belgium or Paris Fixed So far my (driving) experiences in Eastern Europe were pretty pleasant. As in a lot of countries (other than Belgium), people tend to abide by speed limits and stuff and generally don't completely suck at driving. Quote
mjens Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 * Compton - Nice architecture, cool guys, exotic cars and friendly chicks. * Watts - Nice sculpture and surrounding architecture. And they have a TRAIN TRACKS! * South Central - You can see nice cars, meet friendly people, buy cool stuff That's joke of course, I mean you can go there and you'll be fine but it's actually nothing special unless you like rap music and you wanna see where guys from NWA were running from da police Fo realz: * Santa Monica Pier * 3rd Street Promenade in SM * Rodeo Drive * Hollywood - as Minos said but actually take a look at the Walk of Fame but don't buy any CD's, don't take pictures with people, just run through! * Hollywood Sign * Griffith Observatory * Downtown - some buildings like Disney Concert Hall, Angels Flight elevator-o-train. It's rather boring if you don't like architecture and... concrete. * Venice Beach * La Brea Tar Pits and Dinosaur Museum * Getty's Museum - it's free! It's a trip for few days tho You should get a car. Driving in LA is cool, way better than Poland, similar to Germany but 3 times more space/lanes but still there's no rush and speeding to much. ~70mph on highway (10 above limit) is standard but I seen maybe 2 or 4 guys speeding way faster. Aaand I'm doing about 150 miles each weekend, mostly from Santa Monica to Long Beach area, sometimes Downtown, Hollywood Hills... Let me know when you'll be in LA, we'll get a beer. I hope to see rest of MapCore LA Team, right now Irvine is out of my range because this city is really HUGE and it takes long time to get there! -HP- 1 Quote
Minos Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 Thanks for reminding that I still have to check the La Brea Tar Pits properly! I was there once but had no idea you could visit the ongoing excavations at the place at the time http://www.tarpits.org/visit/tours -HP- 1 Quote
