tomrudderham Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Hey guys! My new map, Cliff House has just been finished after a lot of tweaking and bug fixing. This is my second map (first was 'Freeway to C17'). I'm still learning Hammer so architecture wise my maps are not the best you'll find, but I do concentrate on the artwork and lighting to give them an edge Again there's some performance issues, I've tweaked the map to hell but the amount of detail just bogs slower machines down. I'll be concentrating more on performance for my next map, which will be a futuristic city inspired by some artwork I've recently seen. Details, screens and download link!: Deep within the countryside outside City 17 lies a hidden house at the centre of a terrible murder. The corpses of the family are still within the blackened basement, the clues of their gruesome deaths splattered around the house. What was once an idyllic hideaway with a small lake and tree house is now a rotting and festering swamp, and before the Police arrive the perfect place to stage a deathmatch! ============================ Screens ============================ Download http://www.eliabramovich.com/dm_cliff_house.zip Quote
Evert Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 That is a lot props It looks nice I guess, I like the lightning, some textures are misaligned btw. Really good for a second map. Quote
Taylor Swift Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 holy prop - kicker.!!! Well.. The picture i like is the one with the gravestone. But nice.. Looks well done. Quote
Defrag Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Looks cool, but a little too propogated Quote
Mazy Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Cool stuff, but thats alot of trees (most of them look like props n not them treeline texture shizzle) Anyway apart from that then i dont really think theres that many props Anyway, gj Anyway... Quote
DaanO Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Nice idea, nice atmosphere (although i'd like to see something more subtle, which would make it stronger). Next time, if i were you, i'd use some smaller brushes, to make it look more realistic. Now things are just way too blocky. Also, the terrain could have been much more interesting. Adding a cliff wall right next to the terrain, with some trees on top, and they're almost falling off because of erosion. Add a road to the house to make it more of a real place, just make the terrain more interesting. Certainly not bad for a second map, now practise a little bit more and above all, try to make the place more interesting, less generic. Good job though Quote
Evert Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Ok I downloaded the map. There are way too many props in it really, and I would like far more detailed areas, esp in the backgrounds surrounding the map. Try not to use them rock-models all over the map, other things could very well be used as cover. The mountain wall surrounding the map look very strange, it's obvious it was just placed there to block of the map. I love the tree-house though This is your second map, and for that it is somewhat stunning, but as a map it isn't that awesome imo. Looking forward to seeing that futuristic city of yours. Quote
tomrudderham Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 Thanks for the brilliant comments! Really constructive and helpful! Yep there are too many props, I think I got carried away at some point. As a newbie to mapping it's very difficult not to scroll through the folders of props without being tempted to add them! For my next map I'll be concentrating more on the architecture, design and flow of the map. I've got some great ideas and I can't wait to get started... Quote
Zacker Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 I like this map! The lighting and athmosphere is quite good. Its dark, but still not too dark. I think its cool enough with the many trees. Quote
Pusan Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Rotate that beam texture in pic two, and do more with the interior of that building, mabye windowframes and broken out windows. That being said, the first pic captures the mood wonderfully. Quote
csharp Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 There is two reasons why i want to test that map; It looks fine and i want to se my fps in that map Quote
