Sjonsson Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Maybe it was because I was a kid, maybe because I was entirely new to the game, but the first level of MDK 1 is just a shit ton of suprises and new mechanics. Pretty much every zone you go through brings something new. blackdog, ESToomere and Evert 3 Quote

Nakroma Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 change to an office. No one cares about office workers haha What if I make an abandoned school overgrown with plants? I love in the Netherlands, no shooting at schools so far. Just don't do it. For me it was probable de_overpass: The map is still quite buggy and not 100% perfect yet because its so new, but IMO its one of the most fun maps in CS:GO. The vertical layout is so unique and I really enjoy all the boostspots. 1488 1 Quote
2d-chris Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Yeah, Facing Worlds was a real eye opener, probably the single most important map for me. For CS there are simply too many that where all inspiring - many of them were made by people in this community, great times. I loved cs_bikini and that jungle one Mike made? For making new interesting locations with custom art, he also added a lot of life to the maps back then. cs_morningstar? PhilipK's hotel map, this was awesome, clean, nice layout and pretty as hell. I remember making podbot waypoint for this map de_aztec, a very cool setting, interesting unbalanced layout and the tension at those double doors in clan games will never be topped for me. de_laguna, de_volare, cs_shogun, de_rock, de_karachi, cs_industrywest, cs_infiltration? by Nay ... and that sandy temple one from Mazy. Uhhh too many to mention, each one was so influential and ahead of their time. It's quite funny, no matter what I build these days, if it's a related theme these old cs maps are the first thing that come to my mind. Edited December 17, 2014 by 2d-chris Squad and cashed 2 Quote
Spherix Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Ahh how could I have forgotten, Destroyed village from MOHAA was one of the maps I surely have spent most teenage FPS hours in aside from CS... I actually attempted to recreate it in CS:GO as a method of practice to get back in to mapping after years of absence, only going by reference screenshots until I later found out I could just export the brushes and scale them down to CS scales to use as perfect reference Abandonned it since it's not viable for cs:go gameplay anyway. Found this progress screenshot ⌐■_■ and ESToomere 2 Quote
Xanthi Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Facing worlds is one of my favorites too. Also several maps that were created by 3d_mike, de_predator, cs_bikini, de_survivor, de_747 etc.De_dam by 2d_chris The snow environment with the massive dam, such an amazing map.I really enjoyed some old DOD levels too, like Caen, where the player could use the collapsed buildings to flank the enemy. And Avalanche, the vertical gameplay was amazing in this one. El Moroes 1 Quote
clankill3r Posted December 17, 2014 Author Report Posted December 17, 2014 @2d-chris I think you mean cs_greenhouse by the jungle map. I loved the look of his maps but I never liked them in the specialists. They where to cramped, you could really notice it was a port. Dod_stuka by mike looked also great. His site was down for years, now it's back with a showreel that has nothing to do with maps. But the comments are still about his maps lol Www.3d-mike.com Quote

Lajron Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 This was a really fun map while playing UT cs1.6 I think de_torn was a beautiful map with great architecture de_torn : The Interview with Crinity and Madcross http://twhl.info/articulator.php?art=11 cs:s de_wanda i was blown by this map blackdog, 2REK, 2d-chris and 3 others 6 Quote
⌐■_■ Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) Glider and Falaise by Fuzzdad. but seriously tho, DoD 1.6 had some really good maps (Caen, Jagd, Avalanche etc). Still miss playing it Edited December 18, 2014 by killertomato El Moroes, jaboo224, blackdog and 2 others 5 Quote
clankill3r Posted December 18, 2014 Author Report Posted December 18, 2014 That architecture sure looks good of de_torn. Sadly all images in the interview are broken. I really regret how valve fucked up dod source. They should have not touched the weapons. Also I really disliked there mapping choices on dod_avalanche for source. I tried to find some screens but couldn't find them. I will make some screens later, or a video. O yeah, founded this image searching for avalanche ⌐■_■, -HP- and Deh0lise 3 Quote
Mvllsk Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 A few maps with really cool layouts: de_losttemple Had its flaws, sure. But the map did such a great job fusing the different areas together and using the map design to its advantage. de_nightfever Probably my favorite map of all time. Even though the map feels so different from any other map, its uniqueness makes this one of the greatest maps of all time. de_contra Probably my favorite map layout of them all. I'd love a CS:GO remake of this map with a few variations. Actually I was thinking about adapting the layout and make my own map based on contra. Honorary mentions: de_desert_atrocity_v3 and de_kismayo I loved both these maps because they gave me the urban warfare feeling in a dust setting. These maps are not great for competitive play but absolute fun on larger servers and provide great immersion. I used to play on a 64-slot server a lot and those two were definitely some of my favorites. Sjonsson 1 Quote
