That actual goes for me to, should leave this thread now This is extremely problematic thinking. Having "better things to do" isn't an excuse for letting something shitty fly. Evert 1 Quote
dux Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Can you rape the dead corpses of your victims in this game for a combo breaker bonus? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 I think some of you are a bit too harsh on these guys. The one who didn't work on a game that at some point would have been considered a murder simulator should throw the first stone. I would agree that perhaps they are a bit naive and immature about how they go about it. I don't see much value in the game in terms of social criticism of things that have unfolded in the gaming scene over the last couple years/months. People nowadays get offended by boobs and crotches in games not the violence. So ther's not really a point to take a stance for artistic freedom of depeicting violence. What they should do is add a decent background story. Something like the first act from the 1936 film Fury where the protagonist seeks revenge on a town that falsely accused him of a crime and almost lynched him. knj, Sentura and Minos 3 Quote
Vilham Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Sorry Chainsaw, you have rambled all over the place, making claims that ignore the context of the situation and claim censorship when no one is saying anything about censoring this. Most people are just saying this is pretty stupid. If you are unable to understand the difference between what is shown in Natural Born Killers and what is going to be controlled in this game, then I am unable to enlighten you. You keep comparing movies to games and they are nothing alike. They are not comparable, one is you watching a narrative from a third person perspective another is you directly dictating what is being done. FMPONE Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 On a piece of film, you can record any kind of disgusting act of violence or rape, or you can film The Godfather part II. You can make filth with games as well, that's what this is. People need to recognize that this game acts as a simulator for genocide, explicitly, the sole purpose of the game as far as any reasonable person can tell is to find and murder groups of civilians. That's ridiculous and the industry should self-regulate against that or risk looking like a completely irresponsible marketplace. Quote
knj Posted October 16, 2014 Author Report Posted October 16, 2014 LOL, FmPone i think you can close this threat as well. (serious here) Don't act like a lil kid, maybe someone wanted to share his thoughts on Kim's game . . . just saying. Quote
FMPONE Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 I'll leave this thread open as long as the dialogue continues to be reasonable. There is going to be an industry-wide debate about this game, of that I'm very sure... I don't have a problem with the course the thread has been on, people are exchanging views, although people feel differently about the topic. As I've mentioned, I think the developers need to take responsibility for how people regard them after they make any kind of game, it's the responsibility of an artist to take ownership of their art after all. The thread will remain open as long as people can discuss the topic in a civil way. Kim Kardashian doesn't seem relevant to me, call me crazy knj and Pete_H 2 Quote

Sentura Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Well at least the game stayed true to its namesake. I never seen so much HATRED on here. Edited October 16, 2014 by Sentura Vilham, TheOnlyDoubleF, Pete_H and 1 other 4 Quote
Pete_H Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Natural born killers had something to say, it's heavily stylized and comments a lot on how high profile violent crimes are portrayed in the media and reacted to by the public. Also you get an uncomfortable glance at Mallory's childhood, the main violator abused as a child, gives a potential motive / reason for behaviour in later life right away. Oh and the film industry doesn't have to deal with the flak the games industry gets over violence, even in 1994. The GTA argument needs to stop too. GTA is so, so self aware, this is not. Satire, parody, GTA knows what it is and it does that well, even if it does come close to the line sometimes. As creators we should be responsible for what our work says to the wider world and as people working in games, a medium at the forefront of being criticised for what we're saying we should be ultra aware. What is this game saying to people who play it? -HP-, Skacky and Vilham 3 Quote
