Say, are we able to release test versions of our maps? It might be useful to do so for polishing our maps.

 

Yes, nearing the last couple of weeks I'll rent a server so you all can playtest your maps.

can i use this textures http://css.gamebanana.com/textures/3214? i will convert and m.b. redraw some textures... original autor creators Silkroad

 

I don't have an account there so I don't know if they were released for general use. You would have to ask the original author for permission. If he's cool with that then there's no problem in using these. Also make sure you are allowed to modify them and what kind of credit is required.

If I want to have a soft start by doing a map before I start working on my contest entry, where do I post that? Can I just post it in the same thread as my entry or should I put that somewhere else?

 

I think it would be easier (for me) to keep everything in a single thread but I don't want to accidentally break the one entry per contestant rule!

Hi! 

I was wondering if anybody has some experience with recording demos w/ Quake 3?

I recorded some while playtesting but it's really laggy on playback. I tried to play the demo in Wolfcam and there it's smooth but on the other hand some effects are missing and somethings looks diffrent, ugly lightning gun shaft etc. After some research I got the blood and gibs to show up though.

 

For the moment it's okey and I'll go with the wolfcam look, but I'm still wondering if someone knows some way to get smooth playback in Q3?

 

Edit: Lol seconds after I post I see the command g_synchronousClients 1, and it seems like it records demos smoothly w/ it.

You can also use something Like Fraps. Easier to edit later.

I have posted in the Sign up section, but I did not use the "[Map Name] by [Your real name and nick]." as I was planning on changing it once I had named it, but I can not seem change my post title, do I have to make a new Post or am i being bilnd and its hidden away somewhere?

      One of the projects I worked on after I made de_austria.

      Yeah, I know the timing is really bad (CS2!), but can't change it... 🙁

      In general a lot went wrong during this project. Had a lot of problems with the layout, but I think I found a good compromise in the end. Also learned many new things. Maybe I would even be ready to create a really good map now after all, but I think that it's gonna be the final one. I really like making maps, but it has become too time consuming over the years for just being a hobby. Unfortunately I never managed to get a job in the games industry. So that's it. I hope it's a worthy ending of 20 years of making maps for me. 🙂

      Shore is a bomb defusal map for CS:GO that takes place on Lofoten Islands, Norway. (Also have a Hostage version of this that works well imo)
