Games W.I.P Thread

398 posts in this topic

I have just launched a new YouTube channel.

The first couple of Hellbreaker videos have been already released on my old channel. However I am also going to have new content released on the same day as the old videos. This is mostly so people who only know about the new channel will be able to see where Hellbreaker has begun.

My goal with the new channel is to have a stronger focus on making and playing first person shooters. This can range from many different toolsets and FPS games in general. Games where the dev tools are super integrated with the game itself will likely get a lot of play here. (Reflex, Snapmap, Diabotical among others.)

Game play footage will likely range from me talking about the game to simply playing through the game or multiplayer highlights and funny moments.

The new channel is here. If this interests you then subscribe and enjoy!

I made this over the weekend for this year's global game jam.

The idea of the game was that you could only see these "sound waves" and you have to navigate a cave and try to find all the crystals.

Download links are in the video description if you wanna give it a try.

Oh that's great, neat idea and what a coincidence. I was thinking of a similar concept yesterday… watching Daredevil was making me think of a game for blind

My thoughts exactly. Though I think the player would need some kind of floor as a reference point so your brain would not think you're falling or standing on a uneven surface!

I have a terrible vertigo and not knowing where the floor is would make me lose my shit :D

This is more like the inverse of blindness. We kinda see how the blind would perceive the world.

Sadly I think we are still far away for providing games for the blind. Until we get a solution to simulate sound waves. Imagine a game where you could actually determine the space you are in just by how the sounds carry from the source to your ears, and even what objects that space has. Plus you would need a pair of controllers that let you feel the objects and surfaces. So a VR of sorts but without the headset :)

I think SOMA had a nice solution. You could actually know the dimensions of the room from the sounds, but the "listener" was always placed at the center of the room. I was disappointed to discover the echoes of the room didn't change even if you were at the far corners of the room.

I got so many gameplay ideas for this while doing this concept. I could probably spend months just to try them all out.

Yes @WD, thanks for the correction, that was actually what I was thinking (was in the Daredevil movie they were showing the "sonar" sight).

but you could pair the audio system to the visualisation. I have no idea how difficult and how achievable is the an audio system that can mimic the sensibility of a blind man. And yes, big part of their experience is tactile which is completely unachievable :(

Hey Peeps, its been awhile since I posted here. but I started a video series. For a UE4 project I have been working on. I have had a lot of time to really learn blueprints so I am now doing an almost daily blog show progress and design of this game.

Its called Project Stray, it is a complete rework of past projects I have done before with the same name. I have learned a lot about how to make blueprints work properly over the last couple of years. I have also put a lot of focus into the level design aspects of arena first person shooters.

Here is a Steemit link to my Doom 2 level that inspired me to get my act together with further development on Project Stray. Steemit is my choice social network platform right now.

So what is Project Stray?
I am making an arena shooter with a focus on single player and coop game play that blends leveling and loot system with a kind of simplistic graphic style that blends Minecraft with Doom 64. Its a strange mix. You level up, you get better and better gear and weapons. There is support for character classes and abilities as well as movement abilities. There is a lot going on already and I have been work on it diligently for awhile now.

My goal is to make a working demo of this game with basic playable functionality in place allowing you to play through one area and experience the hub location.

Sorry for dumping 4 videos at once here. I have been kind of just trying to build confidence in myself before putting this everywhere.

Steemit is my home social network page so you if you like this content give me an upvote there
