fierox Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) For me the Mass Efffect series really stands out. What happened to the world and your team especially really mattered For those that want to give it (another) go, try it from 1 to 3 with dlc (some dlc is really good) and the mehem mod for a better (or different) Mass Effect 3 ending! Cant wait to see what they will do with the next Mass Effect but i will sure miss the old characters. Edited September 15, 2014 by fierox Sprony 1 Quote
Furyo Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 In chronological order Secret of Monkey Island (narrative driven addiction to the world) Final Fantasy VII (most relatable young teenager hero story ever, and most dream-inducing backstory in a game I've played) Half-Life 2 (Incredible near future sci-fi that made the world it took place in so believable) God of War (Perfect story of revenge, game that screamed at me its unrelenting "I don't give a fuck" attitude) Left 4 Dead (Absolute perfection in storytelling or lack thereof, making every action resonate even more) The Last of US (Most believable post-apocalyptic real world locations ever made, plus Ashley Johnson's incredible acting) Beyond: Two Souls (For the first time, a purely cinematic experience made me care about its main protagonist) Quote
Minos Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Looking back now the first game that really made me feel like I waas playing in an actual world and not just a computer game was probably Kings Quest 6. All the environments are still fresh in my mind even though I played this when I was 6 or something Quote
Sprony Posted September 16, 2014 Author Report Posted September 16, 2014 I can't believe no one mentioned Halo: Combat Evolved. It was announced on the E3 of 2000 for the PC (and MAC I believe) with the trailer below. This blew my mind. It was love at first sight. When Microsoft bought the game I simply got an Xbox just for Halo 1 and 2. I didn't have any other games on it. Both titles made it worth the purchase though because me and my friends played it day and night. Master Chief is a bad ass character. It's an unbelievable rich universe and it really does it's own thing. Looking at this trailer now and I still get goosebumps. It wasn't a one trick pony either because Halo 2's E3 2004 trailer topped the original. Dual wielding, stealing vehicles, brutes, urban combat, it was just so much more. Halo 3 finally sealed the deal for me. Not with it's trailer but with it's commercial. Goosebumps all over. For me, this trilogy is an icon. I love the world, it's characters, it's story and so on. Too bad that Halo 4 was disappointing. But they'll never take away the above. Now, to finish this off, the commercial in question. Quote
