PaulH Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) I might have to pick up an XB1 at some point now, unless there's hope for a multiplatform release a few months after the exclusive initial one: http://tombraider.tumblr.com/post/94529480860/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-update Dear Tomb Raider Community, As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio. Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft. This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4. We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built. Thanks, Darrell Gallagher Crystal Dynamics Head of Studios Edited September 9, 2014 by PaulH Quote

PogoP Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Bahahahaa. Big long epic speech that basically can be summed up to: "Microsoft gave us shit loads of money, so we are now making our game exclusively for their console'. Also, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a terribly generic name! Em', Beck and -HP- 3 Quote
dkm Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 "Rise of the Tomb Raider" is probably the worst name ever. -HP- 1 Quote
BJA Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 That was a really disappointing presentation, only showing pictures of the trailer?! Quote
Beck Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 This sucks but it's probably only going to be a timed exclusive. Didn't the first Tomb Raider sell they least amount of copies on the Xbox anyway? Would be silly not to make this multiplatform eventually! Quote
dux Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Too busy sucking Microsofts dick to give a fuck about the name as well I see. Quote
DrywallDreams Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 lol, never seen an apology letter for an exclusive game before Beck 1 Quote
Beck Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Apparently it's only exclusive for Holiday 2015 https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/statuses/499192318914998272 I guess it'd come out a few months later in 2016 (probably as a superior version with DLC bundled in?) Sentura 1 Quote

MaK Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 It's really kinda silly the way they try to word these to make it seem like it's exclusive to Xbox forever. First Ryse, now this. Even the original Halo has "only on xbox" stamped on it, though its on PC as well. I know timed exclusives aren't exactly a new thing, and that Microsoft isn't the only one that does it. I just wish they were more clear so people aren't misinformed. My friend bought an Xbone because of Dead Rising 3, they flat out said it was an exclusive and definitely wasn't coming to PS4 or PC, but then 7 months after its release they announce it's coming to PC. I don't understand the timed exclusive either. Is it really the deciding factor to buy a certain console because a game comes out a month earlier on it? Or are they just trying to grab the people who are impatient and can't wait for the other platform releases? Makes you question if the money they're giving them is really worth it at all on their side. I guess that's why they're so ambiguous about mentioning whether or not its exclusive forever. Quote
PaulH Posted August 13, 2014 Author Report Posted August 13, 2014 Seems more likely it's timed: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-13-microsoft-confirms-rise-of-the-tomb-raider-xbox-exclusivity-deal-has-a-duration Is there a time limit on the exclusivity period? "Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise." FrieChamp 1 Quote
