⌐■_■ Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Haha fuck free speech and our values because THIS MOVIE MIGHT HURT OUR BUSYNESS. Still tho, hard to guess what type of reaction would be suitable (since some pretty serious threats were made). I'm so fucking bummed out by this Quote

D3ads Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 Kinda in a state of disbelief that this is headline news at the moment, ridiculous to think that all this fuss is happening because of a movie. Sony made a stupid move, bending over and taking it hard in a betrayal of the freedom of expression we can enjoy. Yet, I think all this could have been avoided had they used a made-up country that was based on NK or had a fictional North Korean leader than wasn't the current head of a Batshit crazy oppressive regime. Buddy Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 Now they're making a porn version of the movie and I doubt that it will get pulled off the air Quote

No... that's the whole point dude! That it's NK! It's fucking ridiculous that in 2014, we still have dictators in this little blue sphere of a planet of ours. Most of us have learnt from the mistakes of our fathers, and those who havent, deserve nothing less than being ridiculed. Quote
Buddy Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 NK population couldnt know any better though, they're essentially living in medieval times. blackdog 1 Quote

Most of us have learnt from the mistakes of our fathers, and those who havent, deserve nothing less than being ridiculed. I don't disagree that we shouldn't be bullied by dictators and all that but it wouldn't have hurt the film's chances if it had been a made-up country that was based on NK or had a fictional North Korean leader. It's what happens usually in these kind of films, US president assasination plots feature a fictional president usually not the actual person serving at the time. People talk about Team America World Police, but back then NK didn't have the same capabilities it does today, things have changed and not for the better. Also take into account that Sony is a Japanese company and NK is strongly against Japan because of the imperial history and occupation of the Peninsula. If Sony was so focused on making a film about the current leader of NK, they should have stuck to their guns and released it, if they didn't want this kind of attention, they should have gone for the fictional dictatorship option. kinggambit and Sentura 2 Quote

Completely agreed, but the way i see it, it's like trying to argue logic against a spoiled brat child; you're only going to make the kid even more brattier even though the child is 100% wrong. I think Sony is just being the bigger man at the moment. I'm Korean American so I hear a lot of talk from family back in S. Korea; apparently folks in S. Korea were a bit pissed off that some US filmmakers were agitating the tension. Most of us have learnt from the mistakes of our fathers, and those who havent, deserve nothing less than being ridiculed. Eh, Kim Jong Un IMO is just some clueless kid serving as a puppet for the regime in charge. I'm sure there's advisors and generals who make the actual decisions for him.
