SuperDuperYeah Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Been doing quite a few readings about the IGDA and the different advantages related to a subscription. Seems okay, but is it a must ? As a game dev... should I be joining one of those things ? Is it absolutely important or is it simply for those who want to be apart of this organization ? Quite curious to see the answers. Quote
SuperDuperYeah Posted June 18, 2014 Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 Lol. Alright that's what I thought. Quote
SuperDuperYeah Posted June 18, 2014 Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 I've never even heard of it! Yeah... It doesn't really surprise me. I guess it's more known in North America. I always hang out at the IGDA talks in Montreal. They organize events and stuff. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 I've heard of it but last time was like 5 years ago. So either i live under a rock or it's not really a relevant organization. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 I never met anyone that's actually a member and I've been in the biz for 9 years now Sentura 1 Quote
AlexM Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Yeah now that I think about it I can't really think of anyone I know who's a member IGDA always reminds me of the Mr Langdell suing anyone who used the word "edge" in their games. SuperDuperYeah and Sentura 2 Quote

Haha I remember that. Such a dick this man was. Quote
Sentura Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 The only IGDA members I know are all indies. I wouldn't personally join them because they have no real power and they cost money. I think a lot of people wanting to get into the industry join them in hopes of getting "a lift" towards an industry job. Quote
Nysuatro Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 I think I am as I can go to these events for free. Not sure how I became. Might be automatically when working for Eidos Quote
-HP- Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Btw, I remenber I had to create an account at IGDA (some sort of premium user thing) to get my US visa. Because imigration requires some sort of letter from the association of the industry you work for, and IGDA is the closest thing we got. Quote
