Sentura Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) are clock speeds really that important anymore? From what I know cpu optimization is really more about optimizing specific instructions and stuff like hyperthreading these days. Also what are the things you guys are running that need so much overclocked CPU power? My cpu is almost 5 years old now and everything still runs fine Clock speed have never been as important as being able to process instructions fast. CPU cycles do not necessarily mean that it will process the information faster, because it all depends on the architecture. At this point any CPU with modern quad core tech will be sufficient not to be a bottle neck in the grand equation that is a computer. The biggest bottleneck up until the advent of SSD drives has been data routing, but that has been solved pretty effectively. So unless you have some VERY specific CPU intensive processes going on (e.g. building VIS for an entire game at a time) you'll be fine with your average modern multi core CPU. Here's a glance at CPU effectiveness: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycles_per_instruction Edited May 31, 2014 by Sentura Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 Hey guys ! Thanks a lot for all the infos, I've put myself into it, followed your advices and the prices i found, and here's the config i managed to sort out : Graphic card : -- GeForce GTX 650 Ti OC - 2 Go - 141 € Proc : -- AMD FX 8320 - Black Edition - 137€ MotherBoard : -- 1150 Asus Z87-K C2 - 120€ SSD Disc : -- SSD Samsung 840 EVO 120 Go - 71€ RAM : -- Kingston DDR3 2 x 4 Go PC12800 HyperX FURY BLACK CAS10 - 69€ PSU : -- Antec HCG - 620W - 65€ Case : Fractal Design Define R4 - Black Pearl- 88€ 691€ in total What do you guys think ? Is that honest, or did i put too much or too less on some parts ? Quote
tr0nic Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) 1150 Asus Z87-K C2 - This is a Intel motherboard compatible (LGA1150 is a intel socket) I would not spend more money on a case than on SSD. Some cases are really good and cheap ( Antec One, Antec Three hundred two just to name 2) http://www.ncix.com/detail/antec-three-hundred-two-mid-68-67326-1141.htm (Put that money towards the pieces that matters, GPU, CPU, Memory? ) This is in canadian $ = 40-50$ euro GeForce GTX 650 Ti OC - 2 Go I would go for a GTX 660 (200$CAD - 135$ Euro) Performs better. Or a GTX 760 (190$ euro) But That's just me, I'm a gaming enthousiast! Il faudrait p-e t'informer sur un forum pour savoir exactement quel composante de l'ordinateur est la plus utilisée lorsque tu bake des normal maps pour faire un choix plus éclairé. KoKo5oVaR Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 Oh damn that what i was actually afraid of, compatibility. That's what i was thinking about the case, but eventhough for the cheapest ones i still find them expensive ( like you said ~ min 45€ / 60$). I always had a lot of heat problems on the graphic cards with my previous computers, so this time i'd like to have a case well cooled which lets me add fans. Quote
ChopperDave Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Use pcpartpicker.com to verify the compatibility of the parts you want to buy. KoKo5oVaR 1 Quote
dux Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 Make sure to get a regular mechanical drive to go with your SSD dood. Put all your junk 'n shit on the mechanical and use your ssd for your work and windows, etc. KoKo5oVaR 1 Quote

blackdog Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 I might use your config as a template. I was thinking to sink an entire salary so I can spend a bit more… but also need a display. Speaking of which, how long you guys think it's gonna take to be able to get the super-HD new displays at reasonable price? (27" for 300-500€) Quote
dux Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Good choice on the CPU btw richard. You can OC that thing to fuck even on a stock cooler. Quote
