I suck at art in general... like I suck at it, it amazes me. That being said, I enjoy the hell out of creating my art, even traditional stuff, which I'm even worse at than this vidya game pidder making.

Anyways, I'm gonna dump all my shite for you all to feel better about your skills right here, right meow.

Haven't drawn anything in... a year at least? Never been any good at it but here's something I'm working on, took me a couple hours but I enjoyed ever funking second of it!

Dude i think this looks cool, you can't go wrong drawing girls butts. At all times, in all cultures, everyone will need a talented girl butt painter. Good exercise.

I happened to know a character artist very talented at muscles and men butts with zbrush, he made a career in the games industry :v

I think that looks really nice Bunglo, and I admire your attitude towards drawing. When I end up drawing something that is garbage, I feel demotivated. Having read your post, I think I've been missing the point. If I enjoy doing it, it doesn't matter if what I've come out with is shite!

Ha no, not using a mouse, gots me a wacom.

I'll be honest here, I was obsessed with getting it as close to the reference as possible to help train my eye but still, shouldn't have taken me as long as it did. I found myself redoing the majority of my strokes, one after another, simply because I was extremely tired for over half the life of the drawing. It was me not observing as well as I should have been.

I'm trying to stay zoomed out for the majority of the drawings unless I need to zoom in to see details on the face or something. I'm also trying to keep my strokes broad and "confident" (e.g. not squiggly), seems like they go quicker that way, and they turn out better.

What ever advice you got I'll take, anything that might help me improve is appreciated.

If you're on a dual screen setup make sure your wacom is set to paint only on one screen. Also go in your wacom properties and check that the proportions of your projection are correct.

Ther's several things you can do for better and more confident looking strokes. Most important is practice. Just draw every day parallel lines, elipses, crosshatchings for 15-20 minutes on an empty canvas.

What many artists who want perfect strokes do is to paint a stroke on a new layer then warp it in position.

For photoshop there is a plugin called Lazy Nezumi that adds some sort of lag to your strokes so you can draw them slowly with no waves.

You should also start and draw some gestures every day. That should improve your speed and stroke confidence a lot:

Yeah man, I get that way with my game art stuff but after drawing for the past week or so, I realize that I simply forgot that I used to take my time until I got the results I wanted with an asset or whatever. That's when I enjoyed making art the most, when I took my time and kept iterating until I was happy with it.

I think it largely comes from the fact that with game art I have the goal of getting my foot in the door, the quicker I make game art, the quicker I reach my goal. Art doesn't work like that though, the happier I am while making it and the more patience I allow myself to have on each piece is what tends to get me the results I'm looking for, which in turn gives me more satisfaction and makes me want to do more art!

If we can remember that we're doing all this because we enjoy it and leave all that other stuff at the door that tends to get in the way, it can only make us better artist I think.
