I'm not sure if you are familiar or not with CGHub.com, or the fact that it is dead. Gone. No chance for revival. The site now lives inside web.archive.org and CGHubs.com seems to be the next step to such a revival.

If you had an account with CGHub or you are trying to reach a wider audience, CGHubs.com is open. Check the forum section.

The site is still new (and empty), but I'm sure it will gain some traction in the next months.

Right now, only the existing CGHub forums and categories are in place, but more categories can be added (such as game design, game art and more).

Cheers!

Note: I've been a silent follower of MapCore for many years.

I followed what happened to the CGhub thing, i don't think you site is legal... Someone owns CGhub brand, and i guess the content from CGhub is still the perperty of the owners...

Also, are you sure you are the right person to do this ? I don't want to be insulting, but I think some people with better capacity and network are trying to find a way to gather the splitted community.

What happened to it is terrible for 2D community and I curse the owners (not the shakuro team), but you should let people who were already engaged in the cghub community to bring it back.

@--Em--: I am not using a brand name, CGHub is already a medical brand, and CG Hubs is not a trade mark. CG is computer graphics, nothing wrong here, and hubs is just a word. There is nothing related to their trademarked logo.

I may not be the right person to do this, but then again, why not? I'm trying. We all try and fail, while some succeed.

Regarding this - "We got a permission to use #CGHUB's codebase for non-CG / art related project. Not exactly how we would like to proceed, but if someone has super cool ideas - please drop us a line" - the codebase is just the content management system, so there won't be anything CGHub-related.

EDIT #1: "better capacity and network" - what does this mean? And I was involved with this community as part of a client's network (not directly).

EDIT #2: http://www.trademarkia.com/cg-hub-77514335.html

@Sentura, I'm just trying to help. As I've mentioned on other web sites, "we are a team of CG enthusiasts...". We have the means, we have the will and we have the motivation to do it.

There's no scam.

Then why don't you call it something else than cghubs?

Because I want to attract the old users. A fresh, new community with no established name would not fly, especially with all the big names out there.

lol cghub closes and imediatly you see dozens of communities spawning out of nowhere.

If people want sucess in something, they need to at least attempt at something minimally original.

I hope this serves as an opportunity for people to return to Deviant-art. It's still the best art platform around imo, or at least the most useful if you want to grow as an artist.

The problem with CGHub and the main reason why I never got into it, is that it was filled with high profile artists rubbing on everyone's faces how "good" they were, that was the whole point of the site. Most of the popular stuff was very samey: sci-fi helmets, zbrush orcs, district 9-like machinery, photo bashed environments etc... Since CGHub was a place purely for showing off, most of the artists there only posted their very best and most recent work. This in turn sent a distorted message for aspiring artists and artists looking to grow (such as myself). Since you couldn't see their progress it was hard to learn anything from them.

DA on the other hand is a very open community where posting crappy shit is encouraged. People there are generally very nice and supportive. I love it when I find awesome artists I had never heard about, take a look at their galleriers and see all their old crappy shit from 6+ years ago. Seeing people's progress is very inspiring to me, much more than just looking at "great art". And as a plus, writing tutorials and sharing knowledge/techniques is very encouraged in DA and most of the high profile guys there do that too.

The problem with DA is the stigma of it being a place for bronies, animenerdshit etc... That in part is true, but if you look hard enough you can find some awesome communities there with useful art resources and people trying different things  :)
