Lately I've tried just wearing my head phones and not listening to anything and its actually better than listening to stuff.

 

Except when the team starts having an argument, because that breaks my attention...

 

So maybe I should invest in some noise cancelling head phones

At my previous job one of my co-workers had a set of those ear muffs they wear on aircraft carriers to drown out the noise of the jets. I tried them on and they were amazing.

Ohh yeah been doing a lot too. Got myself a pair of those 2-3 years ago (http://en-ca.sennheiser.com/dj-headphones-noise-reduction-hifi-stereo-hd-25-1-ii). They never leave me. It's not noise canceling to the point you can't here anything, but it really does a nice job to cancel out most of the background noise and chatter. Plus... they sound freaking great and they don't over boost the bass which is nice (unlike the... beats headphones that I quite dislike).
