AlexM Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Sounds awesome! How would it be handled? One large file? Some sort of searchable database? I'd be willing to help out if that's at all needed. Quote

UnknownPredator Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 I remember facepunch doing something like this a while ago, here's the thread if your curioushttp://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1272621 Squad 1 Quote
Squad Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Like the Facepunch project, Dropbox would be neat, as in that you don't need to get extra webspace to host everything and it's updated automatically. Don't like the idea of linking it directly to your csgo folder though, I'd prefer it to be like a shop: see everything available and just get what you need If there would be a folder for every contributing author, it's easy to keep track of who to give credit too, not at all unimportant in a project like this! tomm 1 Quote
DrywallDreams Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 sort by project for "subscriptions" would be great. I wouldn't want so much content just being dumped in my csgo folder. I'd be way into something with search and tags and stuff, sort of like the steam workshop. FMPONE 1 Quote
TopHATTwaffle Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) GitHub repos, or a SVN could work for this system... I also have a buttload of hosting where I can store all of this content if needed. Google Drive/Dropbox would work, but this would have to be "owned" by someone or a few people. We don't need dicks everywhere now... Also, here are my contributions to this pack. http://www.tophattwaffle.com/downloads/realworldtextures-2-textures/ http://www.tophattwaffle.com/downloads/water-source-textures/ http://www.tophattwaffle.com/downloads/mario-world-textures/ Edited March 27, 2014 by TopHATTwaffle Quote

For now just prepare your files, everybody, in convenient .rar, .zip, etc format for us. Quote
ShockaPop Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 It would be awesome to have the nice content from FMPONE's maps (and from other people's maps too, of course)! Quote
tomm Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Although I like git or svn I don't think it's a good idea, especially for artists.. It would be much simpler to just use dropbox where everyone has his own folder. And to make it easier to 'search', we could also provide a jpg thumbnail for each model. Quote

The issue with DropBox is that it's editable by other people on their machines. Plus I'm not very keen on my system being connected to other people's computers in that way, unless I've known the person for a long time. Quote

But then how exactly would it work with repos? Quote
AlexM Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Could you not just have every artist open a dropbox of their own and just list the links to their public release folder per artist? Quote
TopHATTwaffle Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Could you not just have every artist open a dropbox of their own and just list the links to their public release folder per artist? This becomes an issue of "What if that person deletes his DB account?" "What if they just remove the files?" With them being hosted on a website, whilst management can only be done by a few members, this will ensure that the content will be kept there forever. Quote
