Steppenwolf Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 You gotta be fucking kidding me. As i see it VR will be something very sensitive to privacy. Ther's a camera involved, ppl gonna watch porn etc. I don't want that shit connected to FB and the NSA! And i don't want ads in my view or whatever crap they come up with. Way to hurt VR hype in its still fragile infancy! El Moroes and iwxanthi 2 Quote
FMPONE Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Notch has cancelled Minecraft on the Oculus, stating that "Facebook creeps me out" Hard to disagree with him on that one Quote
Pampers Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 que posts on how fb is going to ruin the occulus along with zero arguments to why Mazy, blackdog, 2d-chris and 2 others 5 Quote
2d-chris Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 this is good, Sony already have a headset just as good as this, so it's been cloned already. If it takes off we'll have tons of options for hardware, there's no such thing as buying the rights to prevent others from doing it - the entire tech world is in an endless legal battle already that never gets resolved. Hopefully this exposure will kick start the industry, it's only a good thing in the long run. blackdog 1 Quote
Pampers Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 as a side note, fb paid twice as much for occulus than instagram Quote
Vilham Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 How much fucking money facebook has that it keeps buying shit left and right for BILLIONS of dollars? Fake money, aka facebook shares. Don't think the company has actually turned a profit yet facebook makes a profit. https://www.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ:FB&fstype=ii Facebook has been getting more profitable each quarter. Diluted EPS has gone from $.03/share to $.20/share in a year. colour me surprised. Would of thought it would be like amazon tbh, turn a loss for the first 7 years. It's what most internet companies do, no matter how successful. Quote
blackdog Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) True. And that stock isn't exactly worthless.Hasn't FB stock practically been on a descending arc since it's debut?Anyway, this is definitely the most unexpected acquisition in tech history I guess. Now prepare for the annoying bloat of articles speculating a first-person exploration of your friend network when this is probably just an investment to secure the tech. It's what most internet companies do, no matter how successful. FB was founded in 2004. It grew on investment dollars that drove up its valuation. It didn't start making any kind of revenues until years in, and then when it went public its profitability was very small (relative to its market cap). So you are correct. In the end it probably waited the right amount of time before going public whereas other internet companies often go public to early. Meanwhile, get the popcorn. Quote

FMPONE Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 But can we all just concede that Facebook is an Orwellian governmental/corporate tool to monitor the populace? And that maybe we shouldn't be literally inserting our faces into their newest device? Quote
