Pac0master Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Hi there Mapcore, Abyss is my mod I am working on since a while now and I though it would be time to create a thread about it. I first started with the idea of a mappack then i wanted to create a full mod. Abyss is a mod based on exploration and small puzzle with my own design of the Aperture Science Laboratories. I wanted to create something new. My goal was first to recreate a new looking Aperture Science Labs with more realism, There wont be any miles long open area in the bts scene. The story is about a man who is trying to escape the combines, they traped you on a hill and you had an accident attempting to escape and fell out. you wake up with a bad headache confused by the event and your only though is fight for your life. By exploring the area you happen to find a strange facility but it is your only way out. It was not a good idea. In portal 2 : Abyss you will have to make some choice that will change your story. Not major choice but enough to keep you busy and give a new experience on a new game. For instance you could end the game by falling to your death or being trapped in a deadly room. I have planned to make the Story in Six Chapter, 1: Discovery - you discover the facility and hide in it so you can survive 2: The Abyss in this chapter you will learn more about the story of the facility while exploring part of it without any real goal. 3: Uncharted - in this chapter you had the "chance" to visit an area that not much people have seen. 4: Companion - in this chapter you have a companion from the last chapter following you and helping you through your adventure. 5: Wake up - something went terribly wrong, you will have to face difficult choices 6: The final - this is the final of the mod, There is no exact number of maps but it should be around 20 when the mod is finished. I still considerate myself as a beginner in Source Engine / Hammer Editor / Modding etc the mod may take a very long time to complete but I will Give news as long as I can. Freaky_Banana Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) Looking great! I noticed a texture clash in the menu_test_02 video. It's high up in the middle of the screen at about 14 seconds, on the metal gate surrounding the entrance. But the rest of the menu looks awesome, so this is nitpicking ! In the second video, I think I would indicate the way down a bit more. I personally would have never tried that jump, since game developers tend to clip off everything outside the main pathways and the gap doesnt look very wide (your head clipped through the metal at 24 seconds). So maybe you should use a bright color to indicate the way, or not have as much foliage hanging around there. But as I said, it's looking great !Cheers! ---------edit-------------I only now noticed how old this thread was . But as I am here, is there any progress, because this looks really promissing!
