DrywallDreams Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I really hope that that radiosity is real time. this looks megasick. It's so clean! no crazy AO covering the screen or anything! According to the dude who posted that second screenshot on Valve Time, the powerpoint is from 2011. Edited January 28, 2014 by Marcem Quote
FMPONE Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 According to the dude who posted that second screenshot on Valve Time, the powerpoint is from 2011. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Now things get interesting. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 the lighting has a voxel cone tracing feel to it. Could be geomerics enlighten as well. Or maybe their own crazy solution? Let's hope it's realtime Sentura 1 Quote
Rick_D Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 looks better than geomerics, and i doubt valve would license that shit. Quote
FrieChamp Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 This is looking nice and all but...not that mind-blowing doesn't it? Guys, what's up with the baseball bats...why....oh my gGARharkkklsdflrv,...... Sentura 1 Quote
PogoP Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 I don't know how mind blowing people expect it to be in this day and age? Graphics have sorta peaked, to a certain extent. It's certainly not as wowing as the first Source reveal, but it's still exciting to see that level of detail in Source. Quote
DrywallDreams Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 This is looking nice and all but...not that mind-blowing doesn't it? Guys, what's up with the baseball bats...why....oh my gGARharkkklsdflrv,......I think that just tells us where we're at. CryEngine and Unreal are throwing around crazy shaders and particles that are simply impressive due to the tech involved, while Source does a nice looking and playing scene. Mast modern engines feel like you're playing mid 2000s graphics card box art, while Source tries to be more of a Pixar film (not trying to sound like a pretentious asshole here). Focus isn't placed upon the engine's features, but what game will come out of it. What's revolutionary about Source 2 probably won't be in its graphical capabilities, but will be in its ability to do Counter-Strike just as well as it does Half-Life. Sprony 1 Quote
Puddy Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 I don't care about you guys... I'm impressed. Nerve and Beck 2 Quote
Skjalg Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Are they going to upgrade current games to this tech, then? Or just use it in the new games? (L4d3, hl3, tf3 etc) I'm not sure cs:go or dota2 would benefit from looking better at this point, its all about game play and with better graphics comes a higher cost, which always means less players.. Nerve Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Noob question: If these are meshes, not brushes, does that mean everything is gonna have to be modelled and imported? :s Edited January 28, 2014 by Nerve Quote
Skjalg Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) interesting image, but could be fake... Edited January 28, 2014 by Skjalg Quote

Hipshot Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Just from seeing that picture, shoulden't some of the people lurking here be able to build that scenen in the current source engine? Doesn't look that advacned? Just a lot of tris? LATTEH 1 Quote
PogoP Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Possibly, but the lighting looks a lot richer. I wonder if it's physically based, I'd imagine Valve would go more down that route. Quote
