Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Dark Souls is a lot harder and challenging for sure. Shadow of Hodor is more cinematic and satisfying along with being incredibly beautiful looking.

You'd play Dark Souls for a challenge. You'd play Shadow for enjoyment and a a jolly good stabby time.

Ok so here's my opinion of the game after 19 hours of playtime. Still in the first area:

The good:

Looks awesome

A very good port (For these days at least)

Excellent animations

Fun gameplay

Lots of lore to read

Satisfying killing stuff in combo finishers

Riding a Caragor is immense fun

Watching the AI fight eachother is a flashback to the Half-Life days, love it

A fun stealth system

The bow makes me feel like Legolas

The nemesis system is good I like it

Good music

I like the weapon runes and issuing a death threat to a big boss can give you a chance of having an epic drop

Great sounds

Lots of mini missions and other stuff to keep me busy

The kind of sort of bad:

Seems overly violent for Middle Earth. If you've read Tolkiens works then you are bound to be a bit taken aback by it

The controls can be rather unresponsive and have gotten me killed or unnecessarily spotted during stealth (climbing a wall and my guy starts climbing the wrong way and gets me spotted)

I haven't needed to gather intel on my enemies weakness for the most part, only Warchiefs

The intro was over far too quickly and dumped me into the game where I had no idea what just happened

The ability unlocks make you pretty damn OP later on in the game. The only way you're ever really going to die is from the controls not responding to what you want (As mentioned)

Doesn't really *feel* like Middle Earth for me. But that's just me. Like I said, it's probably the ultra violence that does it.

I've gotten trapped into a corner several times and other times whilst surrounded by orcs and unable to get out. Literally stuck and die

Poison arrows can suck my balls

Is this out on the ps3 btw ?

It's probably worth mentioning that the PS3 and 360 version doesn't include the Nemesis system, which is by far the biggest draw of this game IMO.

Oh and this was the first Playstation game where I got 100% trophies, plus it was really fun doing it~~

Well, the precise quote is that it won't have the same depth as on PC and current gen consoles

"To break it down, some of the stuff we're pretty confident will still be very similar on current gen: the core mechanics, like combat, stealth, ranged and movements; the basic control and gameplay, that should all be really solid," he added. "What it won't have is the same level of depth and variety and simulation within the 'Nemesis system'."

So I guess there will be some Nemesis system, just not the one found on the newer platforms (probably all scripted, as opposed to the emergent awesomeness found on other platforms).
