Decided to make a thread to herald this glorious game.

 

But not really, I just wanted to keep the other thread clean and talk combos n shiz for AE until Ultra comes out...

Still the same amount of ultras. But yeah, execution in this game is tough as nails. I only recently started being able to do some of the more advanced stuff... It takes a lot of practice and I don't envy the guys who do this for a living. On the other hand, pulling off successful combos is a great adrenalin rush. But even if you don't feel like playing the game, you can always check out matches and stuff. For me it's almost more fun to watch than to play given my skill level, you might like it as well:

If you remove the link from the url it should embed. Maybe the Ultra posts in Now Playing could be brought over into this one?

Execution in this game is really... weird. They did lots of things to make it accessible like auto-correct, reversal windows and the most relaxed motion inputs you could have, but then it has massive amounts of 1-frame links, arcane option selects and double motions with triple button inputs.

Yeah I'd appreciate getting all the Ultra posts over here mods plx.

 

About execution: I found that using the auto correcting options left me at a disadvantage for later when trying for flawless execution. I went from using the DP shortcut of df df to the standard f d df just to get 100% execution. I just taught myself to do clean input FADC Ultras after a long time of trying, and I'm currently trying out some monster of a combo just to see how far I can take the execution (Evil Ryu: cr.lp > cl.mp > m.axekick > cr.mp > l.tatsu > either h.dp End or l.dp FADC Ultra 1).

If anyone's interested in learning, there's like a 5 hour in-depth tutorial for all the things to think about in SFIV. It's crazy difficult to learn, but it's interesting.

Man, if you think that's hard you should try some of Akuma's links (like cr.lp > st.hp > hadoken > FADC  > cr.mp > st.hp > EX tatsu > hp.shoryu). It's pretty frustrating missing 1f'ers but I like that, I like that the game is hard to play. Totally agree that some of the input shortcuts and stuff are a little weird though... at least we get priority linking!

 

I picked up AE about a year ago, really good fun :) one of the very few games I actually spend time playing these days!

Yeah, I guess the 1-frame links are really 2-frames if you can p-link, except on lights unless you modified your stick. For execution I like Akuma, Evil Ryu and Sakura in this because their combos are visually pretty cool. Learning needlessly awkward links to do extra normals and sweeps is kind of meh, especially if screwing them up is a mashed 3f DP in the face and 50%.
