Puddy Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 That looks cool, whatever this game is. It looks really damn cool! The thing I like about this is that it doesn't have the same cockpit-fetish of other recent space games (Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen). I don't want to sit for 30mins to turn on the main engine so that I can just fly around in a black void and look at planets from a distance. I want to "get out there" and alternate between space and planet side activities seamlessly, which this game seems to allow! The aesthetic is cool as hell and the fact that they take some astrophysical liberties is fine by me (planets are underdimensioned and too close to eachother etc). So pumped! Sentura 1 Quote

Vilham Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 No bias, but yeah, Im with Shawn there. I don't think it will have much of a crafted/depth feel to it. From what I understand the mechanics are very high level, collect resource style thing. Quote

blackdog Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Was watching the behind te scenes, so everything in the world is created on the fly… how the hell does that work with other players? I thought that this was working like a mmo, so ships seen in the other trailers were other players… so if it's not like that, they were showing the "discovered by" in the videos, that must be an mmo component. Even if you don't meet other live players, what's the point in "discovering" if planets are gonna be all different? Like same planet in the universe should look have a different habitat from player to the other? And finally, looks like that if you pull out of the planet and come back (or turn around) everything gets generated again, sooo… awkward?? Edited December 15, 2014 by blackdog Quote
Vilham Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 No. The worlds will be identical. It just isn't stored as a model etc, its stored as an algorithm. TheOnlyDoubleF 1 Quote
blackdog Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Yeah makes sense, it's just that when he says that the world is generated sounds like it's done per instance… I haven't looked closely but when at some point he's close to the ground, pulls back then comes back down the patch he's on looks different. blackdog Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 As I said previously, I don't think this is my kind of game... but it's still fascinating. One must admire the technology prowess, the courage to try a different thing. So because of related videos on YT, noticed there were more behind the scenes/featurettes... looks like IGN has an exclusive deal with the guys? Anyway, if I understand correctly, they (almost) lost everything because of a catastrophic flood that hit UK two years agowhat inspired the gamethey already explained in other videos but for those who haven't seen, a brief explanation on how the whole system works. There's also a bit of info on the creatures, how they are generatedwhat I don't like about that is that creatures are basically assigned to a planet, while I would like to see or expect something that makes sense: certain variables create a certain life form. The economy, or what is this game after allall the IGN videos are herehttps://www.youtube.com/user/IGNentertainment/search?query=no+man's+sky Puddy, Sprony and Vaya 3 Quote
