Vilham Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Honestly as a huge fan of the series, pretty meh. 1 to 2 was just such a huge jump in mechanics and gameplay that anything since then has been pretty disappointing tbh. Quote
Thrik Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Only skipped through and watched a few bits. The footage doesn't give away a great deal about what the heck this game is going to feature, but I do hope that the jungle gameplay is only a part of the game because I got seriously fatigued by that in Uncharted 1. With that said, UC 2 was undeniably a more or less perfect game but swung almost completely away from that kind of environment, as did UC3. I wouldn't mind seeing UC4 doing a good job of truly fusing urban and jungle together. The MGS-esque use of trees and grass for camouflage is hot. Mainly I play this series for the superb cast, locations, and humour though, so I hope to see lots of that. Globe trotting is a big part of why UC2 and UC3 were so great in my opinion. I guess it's possible that Naughty Dog is trying to simplify UC4 by going with a single kind of environment, but to be honest I hope not. The variety is a huge part of why UC1 fell a bit flat and UC2 didn't. Quote
D3ads Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 (edited) Yeah I'm not too bowled over tbh, it's the same mechanics and familiar storyline with some added bells and whistles, in graphics that only look marginally better than U2/3. Nothing wrong with that though, I'm sure it will be epic. Edited December 6, 2014 by D3ads Quote
Izuno Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 I'm sold. And yes the points above are totally valid about U1, U2 and U3. For a cover/shooter with traversing this looks great. I suppose it if were all mountain jungles I might tire of it as Thrik said, but meh I'm still going to get this one. Quote

Taylor Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 Maybe the HD models will make it feel less like a level pack this time. Quote
-HP- Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 I have to admit I was waiting for a few more gameplay elements this time around. Other than that grapple hook thing, it's the same old Uncharted, and you can only grapple to pre-defined spots, it's not like Batman where you can grapple anywhere. So yeah... I think Uncharted is rich enough to just make another game, but I hope they manage to inject a few more original gameplay ideas on there. That gif pretty much summarizes everything that that's new in the game, which is awesome, but i think it needs more. For now, I really enjoyed what I saw. Alf-Life 1 Quote

Taylor Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 I would really like them to mix platforming with combat more. They do it in a few places, often with enemies glued to a ledge, but mixing the two systemically seems like a natural evolution. And to add an enemy they can fill tombs with before the supernatural enemy is introduced. So, each time I use Drake's strategy guide to open an ancient tomb nobody has been inside for thousands of years... I don't round a corner to see the entire back as been excavated to justify why there are mercenaries everywhere. Really kills the moment, y'know. Quote
-HP- Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 FUck man... am I the only one who thinks his face looks really weird and borderline uncanny valley? Like, this is really good and stylized, the U4's drake just looks weird for the lack of better term. TheOnlyDoubleF, D3ads and El Moroes 3 Quote

blackdog Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) I say wow to the impressive scale of location. Do like the level of detail in the environment, especially the rocks. Even more I like the dynamic blend from platform to combat and vice versa; also environment seems made up of nice sandboxy areas to experiment around. Wish they'd do a remaster of the previous games, so I could think of getting a PS4 for something… I was always going to get a PS3 just for this serie and a couple of other titles, then they announced the streaming service for the back catalog.
