I can't imagine it's important having your TV be optimized for console games in specific.

just look up reviews of the latest TV's and find the one that gives you the best quality for the price you're willing to accept.

I needed to buy a new TV as well when I moved to the US, so I spent a few days researching the different TV technologies we have at the moment, basically we have Plasma vs. LCD vs. LED.

Basically, I wanted a TV that was as large as my budget could afford, extremely sharp quality, very good contrast and above all a good refresh rate since I would be doing a lot of gaming on it, specifically fast paced games so i didn't want any ghosting.

For me, Plasma won, HANDS down! If I ever need to buy another TV in the future, it will deffo be another plasma.

Here's some of the cons: Plasmas consume a little bit more energy, (around 20/25% more than the other techs)

They're also thicker therefor less "stylish" in your living room if you care for that kind of thing, they're around 10cm to 20cm thick whereas a LED/LCD are really thin, around 3cm, plasmas are also heavy as fuck.

Lastly, and this one is the biggest con for me, If you watch TV during the day you'll probably have to bring down the blinds, as Plasmas typically have some glare and reflection. Some models have a filter to work around this problem, but I decided not to go for this for two reasons, first they're more expensive, second they make the overall picture a little bit darker.

The pros: EXTREMELY accurate and deep black levels and great picture contrast. I wanted a TV who's blacks are actually blacks not a darkened flat dark greys. (LED/LCD's are known for having weird cloudy washed-out black levels)

Plasmas are progressive by nature, providing a smooth, clear on-screen motion (refresh rate), which is perfect for games and action movies, I hate seeing ghosting and nothing beats Plasmas refresh rate because of the way they create the picture.

Pasmas also provide a wider view range, so you don't need to be sitting dead on straight to a TV to see the picture like it's meant to, whereas with LED/LCD (depending on the models and how good they are), the steeper the angle you look at it, the shittier the image gets.

When picking a TV, ignore the brands and focus on picking either a Plasma vs. LCD vs. LED.

I ended up going for a Panasonic VIERA TC-P60UT50 60" 1080p 600 Hz Plasma

Panasonic Plasmas are amazing and I couldn't recommend it more for games and to play blu-rays.

lol, yeah I was running away from the 3D as well, but I said fuck it and ended up buying one with 3D.

Glasses are expensive, around 50$ a pair but I have to say, if you have a blu-ray with 3D you're going to be mind blown by the quality of this! 1000 times better than the stereo image you see in the cinema these days.

Just saying, don't feel bad about getting a TV with 3D, it's actually a cool little thing to have, moast blu-rays movies you buy have 3D now, and loads of games too. Nowadays most TV models have 3D anyway.

LG 47LA620S doesn't seem to be bad, it's 120hz so you shouldn't have any ghosting but if you can try and get a better refresh rate, that little number makes all the difference for games!

But again, check a plasma model, it seems you're only looking for a 50" anyway, plasmas get expensive if you start to look for a 55"+ but they're very very affordable (more so than a LED actually) if you get a 45"/50".

For the money of that 47" LED, you can get this much better and bigger plasma

I don't know much about the current market, but when I got my Panasonic VIERA plasma about four years ago the quality was higher than virtually every competing TV yet significantly cheaper than any remotely equivalent LCD.

I was always waiting for OLED or whatever to come along and match its native blacks (without brightness adjustment trickery) but I don't know if these LED TVs are the same thing.
