Steadtler Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Hi my name is André Jansson, I am a level design student at The game assembly. This is my first king of the hill map for Team fortress 2. It's not final, but with the help of your feedback it will! I hope you enjoy the map, and both good and bad feedback are most welcome! Here is a link to TF2maps where I have uploaded it! http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=5483 Quote
Puddy Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) Well, kudos for going all-in on a theme. Makes the map a bit iconic. And while the broad strokes are cool, a lot of the details are a bit lacking. Feedback: The rock walls are very flat and the texture tiling is very noticeable. Make the displacements more interesting, perhaps add some models here and there to break up the monotony. I don't completely buy the ridges (top part of the map). Add another layer of trees, followed by the 2D tree-cards (as used in alpine TF2 maps). The lighting in some shots looks a bit wonky (primarily in the second to last shot). Refine the lighting and look at official maps for inspiration. Also check which props should cast shadows and which shouldn't (I am seeing some black splots). Make proper displacements to avoid strange shadows. In the linked screenshot, I can see overlapping displacements. ( ) Edited October 7, 2013 by Puddy Quote
Steadtler Posted October 7, 2013 Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 Thanks for the quick answer! I shall start working on the cliffsides immediately! I've had a problem with the lighting since start, but with some info_lighting I might be able to fix most of the props! Quote
Steadtler Posted October 13, 2013 Author Report Posted October 13, 2013 Map now updated! The lighting has been refined and the obvious texture tiling is not as obvious as before! The new pics and the new version can be seen here in this link! http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=5484 Quote
