von*ferret Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Remakes count as previously published levels and are not allowed in the competition Says Doug Lombardi Quote
Linga Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 damn are you serious? there was nothing like this in the rules. i can't belive this! come on - i've worked weeks to realize this and forgot about _all_ other things and now doug lombardi is comig up with this? omg i really can't imagine this! all these ours i've spent for nothing? it wouldn't be a problem for me to do something own but i know it's legal to make remakes and so i tought there wouldn't be a problem! i can't believe it Quote
Marcos Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Send it anyway. Try. This map is looking so sexy~~ Quote
Linga Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 I've already sent it and paid much money and i will go absolutely crazy if this is true. but there is nothing about that in the rules so i think it must be okay. however my heart just stopped beating and i feel very very bad about that! kleinluka Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 So do I understand this right? You remade a map from an other game and are hoping valve will buy it from you? How's that supposed to work. They'd get themselves in trouble since you are in conflict with copyrights from an other company. Quote
MagicTMP Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 lol its a great map. hope you can actually get it through even though its a remake. its a damn good one, though. Quote

The map was built on the build engine, I don't think you can even compare it to the original.. and Ol, I've made plenty of serious posts you silly ape. Quote
Kamikazi! Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Section 9 "9. General. By submitting a Contest Entry, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Contest Entry was created solely by the Entrant(s) submitting it and that the Contest Entry is original." Copying a layout of someone elses map is a no no. Quote
RD Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 i doubt anyones gonna recognise it, just hope u didnt write something about it in your credits Quote
Linga Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 @kleinluka: you really should know that you don't violate any law or copyright doing a remake of another map. this contest entry is original like every 'california' song out there is. it's not even a interpretation because it is absolutely different from the build engine map. there are other rooms, floors, 3x larger, items, etc. i don't violate any law or written rule announced by valve as far as i know. and for you guys who never heard about blood. check this screen and compare it with my work. Kamikazi! Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Fact is, you said it was a blood remake. Either change that our redesign the map. Quote
Linga Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 yes. but i can't see any problem with that regarding this contest and its rules. btw@ kleinluka concerning your post and person: if this would be true it would be also illegal to take a picture from a building and making a original texture out of it because you aren't the architect of the building, etc. i would like to hear some opinions from guys wich know what they are talking about in this situation. There is a difference between taking a photo and copying someone elses layout and STATING you copied it. If you want to argue all day with us and live in denial, go for it. Quote
Linga Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 a remake isn't a copy why don't you think about my example? -> http://www.google.com/search?q=californ ... 8&oe=utf-8 Quote
