Why everything mobile-related must be cartoon=ish and that looks like games for children? I don't get it. Check the list of top 50 games on iPhone. Mostly there are colorful games with childish gameplay. I guess this is all what can be played when sitting on toilet or in metro. Why it would suck if that DK game would be just like the original? People won't buy it? What is the idea of making a cartoon game with fucked up proportions and crazy color palette?

I dont understand the hate for this.

i'm happy this is being made. sure its super cartoony, whatevs, i'm in it. war for the overworld looks pretty last-last-gen, so its not like it's any better.

i'll be playing it.

I don't care about the cartoony look, this clearly has none of the actual base building elements of DK, these will be prebuilt rooms you just slap down. This is going to be as shit as impire.

From my point of view it's more a scream of surrender because most of iPhone games are childish, it's not what I was looking for on this platform. I guess it's a cheap thinking like "we need to use very low poly so let's stylize that, what looks nice on low poly? Cartoonish proportions and palette!". Come on... Thank God I'm not a fan of mobile games, I won't touch it ever ;) I was a "fan" of mobile games when it started but I couldn't find a proper, well made game. Still there are some nice titles like Sword&Sorcery (pixel art!) or Trainz.

One more thing. This game will cost a bullshit pennies and people will buy that becouse it's DK and costs almost nothing. Most of the mobile players don't give a shit about the stylization but if I was forced to make such games I would hang myself ;)

This is from an interview on Gamer.nl. It's in Dutch, so I translated some stuff:

Rooms have a predetermined size. So you can't go crazy.
Focus shifted to defending your dungeon. Rooms defend themselves and you'll rely heavily on spells. It's described as a tower defense like game.
The developer said this wasn't a reply to fans begging for a new game. It was found in the archives while looking for a new game that had to be made for the mobile market. In short, it has no soul.

i'm sure they had to simplify it for mobile, just to appeal to a bigger audience, it makes sense why they did it.  DK is just too overwhelming for the average joe now.  Let PC games be complex, mobile is for taking a shit or riding a bus.

Oh and for all you negative people:

"A lot of people are going 'why are you making a free-to-play game?', and I said, 'because that's what the consumers want! That's what the data is. I'm sorry!'"

It's what we want, numbers don't lie, so stop moaning you ungrateful bitches :)
