Sentura Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 (edited) Hey guys, I finally made enough changes that I am satisfied with my portfolio. I'd appreciate any critique you might have. http://www.sentura.net Edited August 8, 2013 by Sentura Quote
Vilham Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 (edited) I recommend you change the banner with the site name on each page to something simple. Probably just your name in simple text on a black background. Looks a little cheap right now. Also I would make the centre which is currently a shade of grey just black. Kedhrin Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 the banner is doing you harm get rid of cantrip if it doesn't link to something your images take a minute for me to make them bigger... not sure if this is your ISP or mine (atm at least), but if its a common issue i'd recommend another hosting company. good implementation of youtube videos. simple to navigate, straight to the point, i like that. the site certainly could be prettier, but i'm not judging your webdesign skills. Sentura Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 (edited) good pick up on the cantrip link. it does link to to something, I've just been messing with the banners and forgot to set it up! The banner is actually just a script that changes with each refresh. I guess I could change it to B&W something or just add some images that are a bit more stylistic. The shade of grey stays because of gestalt laws, making it easier to focus As far as webdesign goes, I am definitely not a great designer of such and I'd be happy if I could just stick it out with a minimalist/simplistic design such as this. I don't think the focus should be that, rather it should be the content. As for the image loading, I definitely think it's my hosting that suffers, but I haven't really benchmarked it. I have no idea how important this is considered. Edited August 8, 2013 by Sentura Quote
Sentura Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 I quickly shoved in a simplistic logo for the banner. This should be better, yes? Quote
TarrySruman Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I'm getting slow loading on those images as well. It would be nice if the images were bigger to begin with, since they're really teeny tiny and its a pain to click > wait for big image to load > click out > click new image > repeat a dozen times. Sentura Posted August 14, 2013 Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 Good point. I'll have to run it by some pro web designer or something to see what I could do about it. I'm sure it'd help if my webhost would actually have servers in the US. Quote
