Mapham Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) Can someone explain this and how to fix it? I do have skybox and light comes from there so how is this possible, also those shadows are odd because they move according to my movements. http://imageshack.us/a/img690/789/ojsm.png My last map was indoor map, and this issue was fixed with adding light entities. Mapham Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 I can run my map, so there is no leak. Also this happens with cordon frame too. Quote
Mapham Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 I created light_env and problem was solved. Quote
Spherix Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I can run my map, so there is no leak. ^just for reference, that statement is not always true. Quote
Mapham Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 Can you tell more about that? Because i though that leak means map is not compileable. How to check for leaks then if no pointfile is available? Quote
Squad Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 If there is a leak it will say so in the compile log. Quote
Spherix Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Well it depends on how you seal the map off. If you have lots of structures in your map, it could still be that one of those structures itself has a leak, but the skybox (or even worse, a giant cube'd skybox) around your map hides that leak. Those leaks will show when you are using areaportals for example; the compiler will notify you that there is a leak and generate a pointfile, but you can still run the map itself since the entire map is sealed off by a skybox for example. Mapham Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 What is defined as leak? i mean, there could be a hole in the building for a purpose. Quote
iwxanthi Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Leak Bookmark that website! You can find pretty much anything you need to know about creating levels in the Source Engine on there. Quote
Mapham Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 I noticed that in my map, there is this area from a certain distance from a player where everything has a bit more light than surrounding environment. It goes forever vertically until it hits something or shadow http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/1434/l0u.png Quote
Spherix Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Have you tried setting an angle for your light_env? (use 'Point at' in its properties) Quote
Mapham Posted August 3, 2013 Author Report Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) angle is -63 31 0 That area I described and showed in that image, follows the player as player moves. Edited August 3, 2013 by Mapham Quote
Spherix Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Heh that's odd. Have you let other people test that? Quote
Mapham Posted August 3, 2013 Author Report Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Problem disappeared after giving light_environment a pitch value Edited August 3, 2013 by Mapham Quote
