Chimeray Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) 5km in 19:40. Fuck yes, still going strong. I thought 20mins was my limit but maybe I can push it towards 18:30. Completely bonkers if I told myself this way back in August when I started running again. New routine since a month ago (added the 10k run): Tuesday: Weight lifting Thursday: 5km on treadmill Sunday: 10km in park/stairs/city/whatever to train in more realistic environments for races. I don't focus as much on time and length here, I usually just run for an hour and do a random route as to not fall into a rut. Edited May 31, 2014 by Chimeray Vilham, Sprony and Sentura 3 Quote
Sprony Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 The only thing that keeps you playing a corean MMORPG are your friends. They keep you coming back because you want to hang out with them. They encourage you and make the grinding feel less strenuous. So, let's share them gym/jogging/healthcare stories and keep each other on track and motivated? Am I still going to be on the gym next month? What about you? In the past, the Core has been there for me. You helped me overcome work, you rooted for me when I my job and you celebrated when I got very close to becoming a freelance game journalist. Now, I need you guys again. It's what Arhurt said when he created this topic, I need motivation and encouragement. That's a lot for me to admit and I feel pretty vulnerable right now. Ever since I quit smoking I've steadily been gaining weight. I used to be pumped up, full six pack and everything, but then I had an accident which ruined my knees. I gained a bit off weight after that but nothing major. I went from 83 kilo to 89 kilo. After I got married (4 years ago) I quite smoking. Over the past 4 years I tried several comebacks at the gym, diets, etc but they all failed eventually (lack of discipline). So throughout those years I went up and down and today I peeked at 106,2 kilo. Now I realize I substituted one addiction for another. I need help. Normally I would go back to the gym, have another run at it, tell my friends (who probably already think, here we go again) and so on. Today, I decided that this method obviously doesn't work. Instead of immediately trying to run at full speed I should first start with crawling. So no gym memberships and extreme diets. No, I'm going to start with my eating habits. The first step is dropping all the junk food, chocolate, soda's, etc and try to eat more regularly and healthy. What do I need the Core for? Well, I want to use this topic (unless you all prefer I split this into a separate topic) to daily post what I've eaten and take it from there. It would be cool if people hunt me down if I don't post, offer insights into what I'm eating and any other suggestions. I'm going to do the same with my friends and my wife. So instead of going all out with everything at once I'm relying on my offline and online environment for much needed help in detoxing from all this crap. What does the Core say? Due to huge response to this I immediately felt inspired and I've been turning my life around a bit. It hasn't been long of course, but there's a start. Trying to address my attitude towards eating is the hardest thing. Because this was basically me: Anyway, I've been eating normal food. No sugar, no soda, no junk food and no chocolate. I've also been riding on my home trainer a bit. Quote

Chimeray Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) Missed your post, late to the party! Good way to start, don't tell anyone! At least for me I've noticed that if I have grand ideas and I share them too early I don't follow through... For some weird reason? Any psychology majors here? I sometimes fall in love with the idea more than the actual execution Also you can notice the "here we go again" or "yeah right" look in people, not a motivational boost so indeed... Baby steps, just drop the food and it'll get you down a whole bunch of kg's! It would be cool if people hunt me down if I don't post, offer insights into what I'm eating and any other suggestions. I'm going to do the same with my friends and my wife. So instead of going all out with everything at once I'm relying on my offline and online environment for much needed help in detoxing from all this crap. This is gonna sound harsh but I mean the best for you: you don't need us to babysit you bro, no excuses! In the end it's your body and it'll have to come from you, you rack disciprine man and it's a good first step that you realize this! Don't listen to that voice in your head, no one has it easy. See that buffed dude in the gym doing his last set of reps? He's sweating it, the voice in his head is saying he already did a good job and doesn't need to lift another one but fuck that, he does. See the dude running fast as shit on the treadmill? He already wanted to get off the treadmill halfway through but instead he ups the pace. I don't know what gets you motivated but saying FUCK NO to that voice that makes me wanna quit is a huge boost for me, I am in control, I can make things happen. That and progress which is a guarantee if you don't give up. I'm not saying to not listen to your body but there's a difference between your mental state and feeling physical strain... The difference between a "good" and a "bad" gym day is mostly in between the ears... Don't forget that! You don't have a weight problem, you have a discipline problem. Fix that and it'll improve a lot of things in your life. I hope that helped some! Do post progress though, I'm sure we can help you out, just saying you can't always rely on others! We can't take the steps for you but you can and we'll help out where we can! If you really have a snack problem/addiction the number 1 way to fix behaviour like that is to not put yourself into those kind of situations for at least the first week to break the pattern if you have it really tough... For instance if you can't watch a movie without a bag of chips just don't watch TV for a week. Temptation is a bitch so just don't get yourself into those kind of traps! Might sound obvious but often overlooked. Edited June 3, 2014 by Chimeray Sprony 1 Quote
dux Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 For those of you with snacking issues: Snack on something better like almonds or cottage cheese Quote
ChopperDave Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Almonds are calorie dense, so be careful how much you snack on those. Greens might be better. More bland but veggies are good for you and are high volume/low calorie. blackdog 1 Quote
dux Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 I'm not saying to eat an entire 200g packet or anything, just a handful to chew on I'm sure common sense would prevail Quote

Might sound obvious but often overlooked. You are absolutely right about everything. I failed so many times on my own that I figured I would try to rely on others. Which was naive at best. As if people would turn into personal coaches all of sudden just because I lack discipline. I just never understood what happened really. I use to go to the gym 6 times a week. I was buffed as hell. But the last couple of years I just gave up on exercising because I became lazy and fat. I've been going up and down ever since and the reason for it is unclear to me. Because in all other aspects of my life I run on discipline. To be honest and this sounds really pathetic, I think it has to do with eating being the only thing left. I stopped smoking, drugs, drinking, etc. Anyway, I'm following your advice and thank you for taking the time to write that down. I appreciate it. So, from now on. I start my days with this: Quote

Sprony Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Ok, I've been at it for 2 weeks now and I went from 106,4 kilo to 103,7. That's almost a loss of 3 kilo. My birthday is coming up (first of July) and my aim is to be below 100 by then. Doesn't matter if it's 99,9 or lower, as long as it is under a 100. In the first week I had a couple of slip ups (chocolate, soda and stuff) but last week was almost flawless (except for one desert when I ate at my fathers house). So it's still early but at least there's some progress Oh and I spent 2 hours riding on my home trainer. I've found a neat little trick for that. I put it in front of the TV and started gaming while riding it. Time flies! Quote
blackdog Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 Yeah dux, problem with that is when you put a packet in hungry hands. My dad snacks too much on seeds IMO, because it has being said "they're good!" he snacks a handful or two of pumpkin seeds as well as sunflower every afternoon. After having tea/coffee with other stuff like biscuits. Quote
