Tschoppo Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 I´m really depressed right now because this didnt worked out. Wanted to study Game Design in Germany and was pretty confident with my application.. but didn´t even got to the interviews. Would be awesome if someone knows a public/free institution that teaches similar stuff in the EU, where you can start in Summer. Didn´t got any feedback for this stuff yet so i´ll just dump some here. First comes a short Introcomic for my setting a crosscut for that building the facilitys logo I was always interested in mapping for NS2 and as my setting fitted NS2´s i decided to use Spark to show my Level Design experience i first worked on a playable greybox for ns2 then tested it and made a map paintover for changes to be made Also detailed out one area ChA1NsAw 1 Quote
e-freak Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 out of curiosity - where did you apply? environment looks good for a first application but I'd try to push it further in the time that you are waiting for another gig. Quote
General Vivi Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 Agreed, as an application to try and get in to a school... it seems silly they didn't want to take you. Quote
FMPONE Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) They perhaps don't appreciate how difficult it actually is to do what you did in Spark, is my guess. It's not easy to do what you did, and most people never even get to that point. Where you should go from here I'm not sure, but you're not helpless by any means. Edited June 20, 2013 by FMPONE Quote
Vilham Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 Equally surprised they didn't take you. Quote
TermInator525 Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Where did you apply? Maybe the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin? If your answer is yes and you are from germany (at least understand the german language) I might have a video for you. Quote
Tschoppo Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 (edited) yep, i applied there and yes i´m german... really interested for that mysterious video ^^ thanks for all the kind words from you guys, appreciate it a lot. Edited June 21, 2013 by Tschoppo Quote
JeanPaul Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 (edited) That layout is better than 95% of university students graduating in game design Edited June 21, 2013 by JeanPaul Beck, Chimeray, Psy and 4 others 7 Quote
Kinky Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Yep, thats ridiculous. Assuming you have some further education qualifications any university in the UK would take you with that portfolio. Quote
Thrik Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 If you didn't get in after demonstrating that I'm really not sure I'd actually want to go to that University. They either have impossibly high expectations or they're fuckin' clueless. Out of interest, I wonder how many of MapCore's pros went to Uni? Quote
Psy Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I went to Uni to study Games Design and it was a huge waste of time. cashed, knj, Kinky and 1 other 4 Quote
selmitto Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I'm Bachelor in Game Design (4 years). I too feel like I've wasted some time in there, but at the same time I could point a few benefits... Quote

Kinky Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 I have a Bachelors in game art. It was pointless, 3/22 from my year managed to get industry jobs. marks went to the same uni as me (year below) and left after one year and works at CA. Says it all. Quote
