Beck Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Wow... By the time #Ryse ships for #XboxOne, we will have served the crunching team more than 11,500 dinners throughout development. #RyseFacts https://twitter.com/RyseGame/status/390146055494303744 Just wow... Why would you tweet that? I know crunching is generally part of development but it's not something you really brag or tell people about is it? Rick_D and AlexM 2 Quote

dkm Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 I think whoever posted that is probably really regretting it by now It's fun (?) to see that topic coming back every other year with a new polemic and nothing ever really changing. I've seen *some* improvements in the industry the last few years but it's still a practice widely in place... Quote
Puddy Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 I think it's a occurence that's hard to avoid. I think the real goal is not to avoid it altogether, but to minimize it and deal with it properly when necessary. Quote
Thrik Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 I suspect that the assumption that game developers are OK with crunching leads to a lot of shitty planning and management, and it's become full-on endemic within the industry — a hotpot of shitty leaders. There are lots of other development and creative sectors outside of gaming that deal with similarly long roadmaps and complexities, yet don't subject their employees to huge amounts of crunching. I don't know how many game studios manage their projects, though. Are there at least solid roadmaps and some kind of agile development cycle like Scrum in place? These big studios that constantly end up crunching don't take a 'just get everything done for milestone X no matter what' approach... right? Izuno and Corwin 2 Quote

AlexM Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) Took me a few days to figure out why my twitter was blowing up with Ryse tweets. This was a funny retort Edited October 17, 2013 by AlexM -HP-, Thrik, Zarsky and 5 others 8 Quote
Vilham Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 The best part about that retort was that Don'tStarve is going to take 4 years to come out on PS4 if the original development is anything to go by. Quote
